This year’s annual Commonwealth Office of Technology (COT) holiday celebration was extra special as our team came together not just to share joy but to spread it. Alongside our festivities, we had the privilege of contributing to the Franklin County Fire Department Toy Drive, ensuring that children in our community have a brighter holiday season. It’s incredible to see the generosity, collaboration, and spirit of giving that defines our team at COT. Grateful to be part of a group that makes a difference, both in the workplace and beyond. Here’s to a season of giving and togetherness!

COT is joining Governor Andy Beshear and the First Lady to celebrate A Capitol Halloween at the Kentucky State Capitol on Thursday, October 31st. From 6 to 8 p.m. EDT, the public is welcome to enjoy a night of trick-or-treating on the South Lawn between the Capitol and Annex. We hope to see you there!

The Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals (KAMP) Conference took place October 8-11. The Commonwealth of Kentucky - Commonwealth Office of Technology’s Division of Geographic Information (COT DGI) joined professionals from state agencies, local governments, and private sector organizations to share insights and advancements. On Wednesday, Kent Anness, COT DGI’s Geographic Information Officer, delivered the opening address. He celebrated Kentucky’s mapping achievements over the past 20-30 years and highlighted the benefits of centralized data sharing, particularly through the KyFromAbove initiative. On Thursday, Ian Horn of COT DGI presented to a full room on leveraging KyFromAbove with cloud-friendly tools, showcasing our AWS Open Data portal. Meanwhile, Lucas Graham shared insights on integrating statewide oblique imagery through the KyFromAbove Explorer, another session that drew a standing-room-only crowd. COT DGI was honored with two awards during Thursday’s ceremony: KyFromAbove received the Exemplary System Award, recognizing outstanding GIS/mapping programs in Kentucky. This marks the first time KyFromAbove has won this prestigious award. Kim Anness of COT DGI received the Service to the GIS/Mapping Community Award, honoring her significant contributions to Kentucky's GIS programs and initiatives. It was a fantastic event, and we’re proud of the work being done collaboratively to continue advancing geographic information in Kentucky!
