Attention students: Applications for the Spring 2024 INNOVATE Cyber Challenge are open! The INNOVATE Cyber Challenge is a paid ($1000) experiential learning opportunity via Zoom for cybersecurity and IT undergraduates. The next cohort launches January 16, 2025, and continues through April 24, 2025. Applications are due January 10, 2025. INNOVATE Cyber is a competitive process limited to a select group of undergraduates, though no previous experience with design thinking is necessary. Eligible students must be in an undergraduate program with coursework related to cybersecurity and currently taking classes at public two- or four-year institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The White House includes the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative Northern Virginia Node's work at Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University on its "Connecting Americans to Good-Paying Jobs in Cyber" webpage. "George Mason University (GM) commits to support impactful, skills-based, hands-on cybersecurity experiential programs, including an expansion of its cybersecurity traineeship to 100 cybersecurity apprentices over the next 5 years. The traineeship is a collaboration with Northern Virginia Community College, and has support from the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. Last week, Commonwealth Cyber Initiative Northern Virginia Node's Cyber Accelerator (CCI+A) Program culminated in a final pitch competition in front of a panel of cybersecurity industry experts and entrepreneurs. ?? Through this program, Virginia-based cybersecurity engineering academics spent the past few months connecting with mentors, identifying?funding and how to obtain it, investigating their target customers, further developing their product and honing their elevator pitch. ??
