We Make It Easy to be Equitable.? CommonHealth ACTION develops people and organizations to produce health through equitable policies, programs, and practices. Our vision is an America in which all people have equitable opportunities to achieve their best possible health. We believe that health is a production of society. In addition to genetics, our health outcomes are determined by the contexts within which we live our lives and make personal behavioral choices. To create equitable opportunities for health, we must address the policies, systems, and institutions that create the contexts within which people live their lives and make their decisions. Our work crosses many sectors, but to see how yours may link to ours, head over to our website and feel free to contact us!

Today, on her birthday, we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Dorothy Height. She was a fearless civil rights leader, educator, and advocate for racial and gender equality. As the longtime president of the National Council of Negro Women, she fought tirelessly for desegregation, voting rights, and economic justice. Her wisdom, leadership, and dedication paved the way for so many. Let’s honor her by continuing the fight for equality and justice for all! #DorothyHeight #Women'sHistoryMonth https://lnkd.in/gHJ6xFy

Before there was Harriet Tubman and Fredrick Douglass, there was Francisco Menéndez. He was an enslaved man who escaped from British-controlled South Carolina and sought refuge in Spanish Florida in 1718, where he became the leader of Fort Mose, the first legally sanctioned free Black settlement in the United States. A fierce warrior and loyal to Spain, Menéndez resisted British attacks in 1728. From his leadership and defeat of the British forces, he was able to petition and gain his freedom in 1738. After the British took Florida in 1763, his fate remains unclear but his legacy stands as a powerful symbol of Black resistance and freedom in early America. https://lnkd.in/edW5JVVJ

The award season in Hollywood is in full swing with the SAG awards happening this past Sunday. Before Dorothy Dandridge and Lena Horne there was Fredi Washington. She is best known for her role in a movie called Imitation of Life in 1934, in which she earned praise and recognition for her acting. In light of that praise, she was encouraged to "pass" as white in order to be nominated for awards or secure more roles, but she refused. Despite the racism she faced, she went on to became a strong advocate for civil rights and a co-founder of the Negro Actors Guild of America, which worked to improve opportunities for Black performers in the entertainment industry. #oldhollywood #blackhistorymonth #hollywood

Leadership is not solely about authority; it is about impact. The kind of impact that ensures that policies, decisions, and actions create opportunities for all, addresses systemic inequities, and fosters communities where everyone can thrive. From the highest levels of government to grassroots organizations, leaders who center equity drive meaningful change in public health and throughout society. The RWJF Change Leadership Programs equipped leaders with tools and networks to create lasting impact. By fostering inclusive and innovative leadership, these programs have helped leaders to shape communities that prioritize fairness, health, wellbeing, and quality of life. At a time when equity and public health are under significant pressure, the RWJF Change Leadership Programs Alumni Network is more important than ever. This network offers a space for leaders to collaborate, advocate, and continue the work of systemic change. By joining forces, alumni will amplify their impact, drive policy changes that support health, and mentor the next generation of equity-focused leaders. If you are an RWJF Change Leadership Programs alum, now is the time to reconnect, re-engage, and be part of a network that continues to advance health equity. Let’s lead with purpose and ensure a healthier future for all. As we formally launch the network this week, CommonHealth ACTION will host virtual Fireside Chats to discuss what is happening in your corner of the world, how this network can be supportive of you and your work, and what you would like to contribute to making this Alumni Network a success. To join any of the Fireside Chats this week, please check your email for your invitation. If you did not receive one or if you have any questions, be sure to email us at [email protected]. We look forward to talking with you! #EquitableLeadership #HealthEquity #Leadership #RWJF #CLPAN #COHL #COHLI #ClinicalScholars #IRL #HPRS

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress." - Frederick Douglas was born into slavery on this day, February 14, 1818. He was able to escape slavery to become one of the most powerful voices for abolition, justice, and equality. As an author, speaker, and activist, he used his words to expose the horrors of slavery and fight for the rights of Black Americans. His famous speeches and writings, like Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, continue to inspire movements for freedom and justice today. He believed true change required action, courage, and persistence. His legacy reminds us to keep pushing forward in the fight for equality. https://lnkd.in/gSRujCsw
