Helping companies set their employees up to find best friends at work

Yesterday was probably the most fun day of my career ?????? We had the amazing opportunity to use Thred's tech to help students in Bellevue School District's Evergreen Transition Program make lasting friendships. Here’s how we did it! At the school’s Valentine’s Day party*, we set up Thred’s “Stitch Station.” Students visited the Station to find which three classmates they had a ton in common with. Then they got to know their new friend and brought them back to the Stitch Station for a raffle ticket. The winning pairs received a Starbucks gift card to use on a future friend outing. There was a ton of energy in the room as students hit it off. Everyone was so happy, myself included, as I watched the tool that I’ve worked so hard to build work wonders for a group that really needs it. A huge thank you to Bellevue Schools Foundation for the grant that made this work possible and to Adina Rosenberg for the idea of bringing Thred to schools! *Thred is not a dating app #connection #disability

Helping companies set their employees up to find best friends at work

Employee Resource Groups are in uncharted territory. Following the recent executive orders targeting marginalized groups, government organizations are curbing DEI efforts and freezing budgets—and some businesses are following suit. ERG members—who might feel alienated by these changes—need support, community, and strong networks now more than ever. Thred's product builds community better than anyone’s. But with budgets disappearing, conscientious leaders are stuck. So we're opening Thred up specifically to ERGs for free during February. If you're an ERG leader looking for ways to support your members and help them find community, DM me.

Helping companies set their employees up to find best friends at work

Disability professionals, school faculty, folks in academia, I'd love your take! We’re about to start a project using Thred to create meaningful connections for students with disabilities in the Evergreen Transition Program (ETP) in the Bellevue School District. It's going to be freaking awesome. My question is: what outcomes would you want to see measured, both from the lens of schools/students and disability/inclusion? Here is more context: ???????? ???? ?? ???????????????????? ??????????????: Transition programs like ETP provide public special education services to students with disabilities ages 18-22, with a focus on the transition from high school to postsecondary life. This includes vocational training and functional life skills supports. ?????? ??????????????: Social outcomes for adults with disabilities are far lower than adults without disabilities. At age 22, these students must exit public school. Schools try to set students up for success, but practically, they are on their own after 22. They need friends to thrive in this stage of life. ?????? ????????????????: Use Thred's technology to create structured, interest-based connections for students. Test with a pilot group first to ensure accessibility. ???? ??????????????????: What kinds of feedback would you want to see captured? What questions would you want studied? Thank you to Adina Rosenberg for the brilliant idea to bring Thred to the classroom and to Bellevue Schools Foundation for the grant that made this work possible. I'm proud and grateful that my Seattle/Bellevue community is investing in non-traditional, accessible education.

Found something really cool when we pulled out Thred's Net Promoter Score data ("how likely are you to recommend..") for new hires. Among new hires, there were: ? 75% Promoters (9-10) ? 25% Passives (7-8) ? 0% Detractors (0-6) This amounts to a Net Promoter Score of 75, which is 100th percentile for software! What's this mean? My read on it is that new hires need and want connection more than just about anyone.

HBR's recommendations for combatting loneliness at work: 1. Implement a tool for measuring loneliness 2. Design slack (as in leeway) into the workflow 3. Create a culture of connection 4. Build socializing into the rhythm of work 5. Keep social activities simple 6. Maximize each work mode for connection 7. Actively recruit participants

Most of us expected employee connectivity to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels by now, but unfortunately loneliness at work is still widespread. It's a problem that will not fix itself with time—and certainly not with RTO mandates.

Helping companies set their employees up to find best friends at work

When I walked into the Gaylord hotel for #CoreNet last week, I had some intense deja vu. It took a minute, but after I saw the huge glass facade in the lobby, I clocked it. I had been there years ago—in high school—at a youth group convention (BBYO). My time in that youth group helped me form hundreds of deep friendships, many of which are still going strong today. How perfectly fitting that I was back at the Gaylord to speak about connection. The folks at Colliers brought my company, Thred, in to co-facilitate a session on the topic and—the really fun part—to use our tech to actually make connection then and there in the room. Attendees bonded over shared interests, and it was a blast. Apparently a couple of the "Mellow Travelers" went right from strangers to friends and invited each other to Thanksgiving dinner ??. I'm thankful to Chris Zlocki, M. Michelle Cleverdon, and the whole Colliers team for being willing to push the boundaries and try something new and innovative. Such a privilege sharing the stage with you! #CNG24DC

This morning at #CNG24DC, attendees heard from Chris Zlocki, M. Michelle Cleverdon, and Aaron Chasan as they explored what it means to build a people-centric organization in today’s hybrid world. With loneliness on the rise among workers, the session highlighted the importance of fostering inclusivity, embracing diverse perspectives across all levels, and leveraging technology thoughtfully. Through collaborative discussions and shared experiences, attendees walked away with actionable ideas on creating a more connected workplace. Thanks to all who joined us! #CoreNetGlobal #ColliersOS
