After two days of discussions to identify actionable solutions to pressing issues among over 500 attendees, that’s a wrap on the first Common Sense Summit on America’s Kids and Families! Day two began with Meta whistleblower Frances Haugen and FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel talking with Geoffrey Fowler on how to hold big tech accountable for kids’ safety. The dialog continued into topics centered around health, equity, and next steps to help kids and families across the country in 2024. Some key moments included: Secretary Margaret Spellings discussing “education’s long COVID” and how to make it a top priority this year; Facing History President and CEO Desmond K. Blackburn, Ph.D stressing the importance of always learning from the past as we advance; California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom sharing solutions for setting children everywhere up for success, and Angela Glover Blackwell and Common Sense CEO Jim Steyer presenting a call to action for putting kids and families first in the 2024 election and beyond. We believe the momentum will continue after the Summit, as speakers and attendees return to their work with new support and solutions.
