In response to the unprecedented 2022 mpox outbreak, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene used lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic to promote access to the mpox therapeutic tecovirimat. This report showcases the success of this approach, which resulted in tecovirimat treatment being prescribed to approximately one-third of all patients with mpox in New York City. It also outlines how cross-sector partnerships can help respond to other disease outbreaks, aligning with the Common Health Coalition’s mission of increased emergency preparedness. This report, featured in NEJM Catalyst’s August issue, highlights the intentional, collaborative efforts of Minnesota’s public health, health care, faith-based, and community institutions to promote COVID-19 health equity.
