Music isn’t just great to listen to – it can help you relax, reduce stress and even sleep better. In addition to other benefits, music has been shown to decrease levels of the stress hormone cortisol and trigger the release of dopamine, which can boost good feelings at bedtime and even help manage pain. In one study, adults who listened to 45 minutes of music before bed reported having better sleep quality – beginning on the first night. Start by choosing calming music that you enjoy and avoid songs that cause emotional reactions. If you’re focusing on better sleep, make music a habit each day because routine is great for sleep.
