Our partners Rhett Morris and Rohit Acharya recently participated in the first meeting of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus in the U.S. Senate. Morris spoke after Sen. Tillis of North Carolina (pictured) and Sen. Padilla of California to share results of research our team conducted with Crisis Text Line that used machine learning to reveal what teens need from their communities to improve their mental health. Yesterday, our partner Rohit Acharya was interviewed on NBC News to discuss our new research report with Crisis Text Line. The report, entitled “What Do Young People in Crisis Need from Their Communities?”, shares analyses we conducted using Natural Language Processing and data from over 85,000 anonymized conversations between young people and volunteer counselors at Crisis Text Line. This revealed something very interesting. There are six resources young people say they need from their communities to help them cope with mental health crises: - Opportunities for social connection; - Engagement in music, writing, visual, and performing arts; - Mental health services; - Exercise and sports programming; - Books and audiobooks; and - Outdoor spaces and nature.
