关于我们
Imagine the Dulles Corridor Without Dulles Airport. Dulles brings big business to Northern Virginia. It brings hundreds of thousands of tourists and other visitors every year. It brings people and products together. And it provides fast, convenient access to world markets. Dulles International Airport is Northern Virginia’s economic lifeline. And although it is clearly here to stay, its full potential is by no means guaranteed. That’s our commitment. The Committee for Dulles is a dynamic community of business leaders, policy makers and influential individuals. Founded in 1966, the Committee plays a pivotal role in making Dulles the premier air travel service provider for the national capital region and an economic feeder for the business community that surrounds it. Our Mission The Committee for Dulles is dedicated to achieving the full potential of Washington Dulles International Airport and the economic growth of its region.

Last Tuesday a group of 15 members of the Committee For Dulles and guests had the pleasure of experiencing an in-depth tour of the Baggage Handling Systems at Dulles International Airport. The Inbound and Outbound Baggage Handling Systems are categorized between four separate areas of the Main Terminal and two areas of the C/D Midfield Concourse with 4 Ticket Counter Kiosks -13 Ticket Counter Belts + 6 Curbside +3 Oversize Belts covering approximately 49,756 feet or 9.42 miles of Linear Feet of Conveyor. From January 2024 through August, the total baggage volume at Dulles Airport reached over 2,507,324 bags. We viewed the process of baggage through multiple scanning steps including the process to handle questionable baggage that needed additional screening for any potential concerns such as firearms and explosive material. This included observing baggage being inspected by Explosive Specialists. Many thanks are extended to Dick DeiTos, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Washington Airline Committee, for arranging the Tour. Additionally, many thanks are expressed to our expert tour guides Eric Chin, Assistant Federal Security Director for TSA, Eric Bauserman, the airport’s facilities manager and Brian Palmer, Airport Baggage Handling Program Manager, for conducting the tour. The Aviation and Airport Activities Committee offers our members unique opportunities to see the internal operations of the many different aspects that makes Dulles Airport the economic engine of the Commonwealth.
