关于我们
The Committee of Seventy has been called a "government watchdog," "the elections people" and a "think tank." We're all three and much more. We’re a not-for-profit group that has been holding politicians’ feet to the fire since 1904. Guided by a Board of Directors made up of many of the region’s most respected business, legal and civic leaders, we hold one goal highest – to use our voice and our influence to provoke real government reform in order to attract more residents and businesses to the region. We’re fiercely non-partisan and never endorse candidates. Whether we are working quietly behind the scenes or making noise in the media and in our own “How Philly Works” reports on issues affecting Philadelphians, we’re fighting for effective and efficient government, fair elections and an honest political culture. We demystify complex issues, using language that you don’t have to be a wonk to understand. Sometimes, we take the lead and other times we join forces with other concerned organizations, but we’re always taking on tough problems that must be fixed if our region is to prosper. We fight every day to make Philadelphia a better place to live, work, and do business.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week for our anniversary celebration and record-breaking fundraiser! ?? As part of the evening, we were thrilled to host a powerful discussion between CNN’s Chris Wallace and 6abc WPVI-TV Philadelphia’s Tamala Edwards. Their conversation not only reflected on the pivotal 2024 election but also drew insightful parallels to history, showing how lessons from the past can guide us through today’s challenges. We're so proud of all we accomplished this past election cycle and honored by how many of you believe in our mission of strengthening democracy and staying engaged locally. For 120 years, we’ve been at the forefront of this work—and we're committed to continue bolder than ever. Here’s to the next chapter of an informed, engaged, and empowered democracy!

From kindergarten to college, the Committee of Seventy offers a range of programs to help youth engage with government and civics in meaningful ways. We’re incredibly proud of the learning and growth we’ve seen this year and are excited to expand our impact even further! Learn more: https://heyor.ca/dHkT3o

On election day, we held three events at high-traffic Philadelphia polling locations – West Philadelphia High School, South Philadelphia High School, and Bright Hope Baptist Church in North Philadelphia – and engaged artists and arts organizations from the area to lead activities about democracy and voting rights. Guests of all ages were able to paint, color, and share their voices in creative ways. Thank you to WeVote partners Fleisher Art Memorial and Taller Puertorrique?o, as well as multimedia artist Arshayla Robinson, muralist Jamee Grigsby, and comic book artist Ted Woods. And if you’d like some voting rights coloring sheets designed by Ted Woods just for C70, please reach out and we’ll send some your way!
