?? CLDP’s Central Asia Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group Continues in Istanbul! ?? Women in Central Asia may face unique barriers as they work to build their businesses, attract investors, and build connections with international partners. At the same time, the region is actively seeking to build an increasingly inclusive business community, which promotes #women’seconomicempowerment, independence and participation in economic activity. ?????????? To address this matter, CLDP brought together 55 public and private sector representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, together with representatives from the community of Turkish women in business in Istanbul, Turkey, for the ongoing Central Asia Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group, to explore the landscape of women’s participation business and trade across Central Asia. The first day of the program centered on the collection and use of sex-disaggregated data, where participating representatives shared concrete feedback on the ecosystem for data collection, storage and use in their respective countries, and actionable recommendations on how to best leverage data to advance women’s participation in the economy. On day two, CLDP pivoted to work directly with women entrepreneurs, providing coaching on how the women can grow their businesses, and providing space for networking with their Turkish counterparts. ?????? Thank you also to our partners at the U.S. Consulate General Istanbul and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and to our expert speakers from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Center for Research and Policy Making - CRPM the National Foreign Trade Council, El Camino Travel and Arcascope #WEE #CentralAsia #Women’sEntrepreneurship

???????????? Governments, especially in small countries, are busy.?Why should governments allocate high-demand resources toward #IntellectualProperty rights enforcement? ?? #IPR intensive industries have an outsized contribution to domestic economies in terms of GDP development, providing high-wage jobs, and attracting high-quality foreign investment ?? IPR crime like counterfeiting and piracy have the highest global annual value of any illicit trade industry – even more than human trafficking and narcotics.?Financial gains from these IPR crimes can be laundered and reinvested into other areas in which organized criminals work. ?? #Counterfeit pharmaceuticals, personal health products, food items, and alcohol often lead to serious personal injury or death. ?? Counterfeit items are made in unregulated factories, leaving room for environmental and social injustices to occur. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice, National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, UK Intellectual Property Office, and React are with Commercial Law Development Program in #Prizren, #Kosovo this week with colleagues from the Kosovan and #Albanian governments to discuss these topics and more.
