GIVE ME THEATRE! Founder and director of The Odd Duck Asmaa Said talks to CID about her latest F&B project, Uma Nota, as we glimpse into the mind of this joyfully creative, Egyptian designer. In the exclusive interview with CID, Said says, “We didn’t want to be too literal; we didn’t want to put in a lot of tropical prints or elements that would date quickly.” What would capture the soul of Brazil, she remembers thinking, arriving at the idea that it needed to be raw and uninhibited. The answer? A tree. Continue the interview here: https://lnkd.in/ernRdTVZ

OMA’s design shapes the second Islamic Arts Biennale, Jeddah. The second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale has opened in Jeddah with scenography designed by OMA’s Iyad Alsaka and Kaveh Dabiri. Titled 'And All That Is In Between', the exhibition examines the role of faith in artistic expression and craftsmanship. Over 500 historical objects and 29 contemporary art commissions are on display, exceeding the content of the first edition. OMA’s scenography is structured around abstract forms that reinterpret traditional architectural elements. The material palette consists of white fabric in varying textures, with lighting adjustments creating subtle differences in perception. To read more subscribe to CID today with code: NEWYEAR50

?? Can AI surpass the human touch? Is architecture elitist? Can and should creatives switch off? Is balance in life a recipe for mediocrity? These are the hard-hitting questions that the CID Power Panels bring to the forefront. On 29 Jan, 8 renowned designers and architects lead a discussion on AI and mental health in design. We touched on ethical considerations, emphasising the need for designers to take an active role in shaping how AI is integrated, transparency in processes, safeguarding against over-reliance on technology, and promoting inclusivity in design outputs. ? Panellists noted that AI should be viewed not as a threat but as a complementary tool that expands the boundaries of what’s possible in design. As the venue partner, Al Huzaifa Design Studio added a layer of inspiration to the event. Spanning 8,565 square feet, the studio’s concept settings, mock-ups, and extensive material libraries reflects its dedication to bespoke design. CID continues to drive critical conversations, equipping the design community with the insights and tools needed to stay ahead in an ever-evolving landscape. With special thanks to our sponsor?Al Huzaifa Furniture ?and the incredible panellists: Yasmin Farahmandy Paul Bishop Firas Alsahin Rakan Jandali Aleksandra Mojse David Lessard Marco Maximus Vijay Nambiar Watch the highlights!
