Comfort Cases was founded in 2013 with the mission of inspiring communities to bring hope and dignity to foster youth. Comfort Cases believes that every child has the right to a more humane experience in foster care, and that starts by providing each child in care with a Comfort Case to hold their belongings instead of a trash bag. With the initial goal of helping hundreds, Comfort Cases has dramatically expanded its reach since its inception having delivered more than 95,000 cases to children and youth ranging from newborns to the age of 21 in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. With Comfort Cases distributed to social service agencies, private agencies, emergency domestic violence shelters, family shelters, schools, and police departments, the reach has been broad to children and youth. With exciting developments on the horizon, Comfort Cases continues to grow. While engaged in the process of planning for national expansion, Comfort Cases has established supporters in all 50 states who want play a meaningful role in fulfilling Comfort Cases’ presence and impact. It was such an honor to be a Co-host on the latest episode of Comfort Cases, Inc.' “Fostering Change” podcast, along with one of our BFF alumni, Elie. It was a full-circle moment when Elie reached out to Robert Scheer, the founder of Comfort Cases, to share his story, and Rob invited him to speak on the podcast. When Rob learned that Elie was part of Best Foot Forward , he extended the invitation for me to join the conversation as well. Comfort Cases’ mission to bring dignity and hope to youth in foster care aligns closely with our work. We’ve been proud to partner with Rob, founder of Comfort Cases, for six years through the Lynn University Citizenship Project, and we were very proud to honor him as our 2022 Sole Mates Anchor Award recipient. During the episode, I discussed our mission to empower foster care and at-risk youth through academic achievement. Elie, one of our remarkable BFF students, tells his inspiring story of resilience and perseverance. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout his time in foster care, including attending multiple high schools, Elie achieved academic success, graduated with a degree in accounting, and is now building a promising career as a real estate agent. He continues to serve as a powerful example of what’s possible with the right support. Kudos to our Cushman & Wakefield DC Asset Services Department's #CWlture Volunteering and Community Impact committee for another successful event, this time supporting Comfort Cases, Inc. in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This fabulous group spent an afternoon filling 100 backpacks with personal care and other items for children entering the foster care system. Comfort Cases aims to eliminate the demoralizing practice of providing children with trash bags to store their belongings, providing more than 13,000 backpacks annually to foster children. A special shout out goes to Janice Snee, CPM for selecting this outstanding cause and coordinating the effort. It has been one VERY busy week for me.... meetings, meetings and more meetings, meeting my new scholars on the first mentoring day of the school year, physical therapy after work, meet up with old coworkers and a few hours spent at the library helping my own son get on track with his college applications....whew, I need a break! As much as I've done since last Saturday, it's all been very fulfilling in the long run. - Higher Achievement - PCAB - Parent and Community Advisory Board for Baltimore City Public Schools - Baltimore City Public Schools - Comfort Cases, Inc. - The Ingenuity Project, Inc. - Baltimore Polytechnic Institute - Ingenuity Project .... they all need regular folks like you and me to support the children and families of this city.
