We need your help! This image of a metal badge was sent to us by one of our friends on Facebook. It was found in someone's house in Canada and its origin is unknown. Anyone have any information about it? We'll send some CDF Logo Stickers to anyone that can ID it...(yes we are aware that the emblem in the center is an SODB...) Here's a description we wrote that might help spur some thoughts: "The emblem in the middle of the star is the U.S. Army Special Operations Diver Badge. The star is unique as it has 7 points so it's not very common. The leafy inlay might have some meaning or at least might be identifiable in other decorations somewhere. There's a rounded structure below the badge that is notable though it's not clear what it's for. The triangular inlay at the top might actually be text but it's difficult to make out. The ring around the star makes it seem like a badge. It looks quite small and it appears to have a single bar-style pin in the back which might suggest a cap badge." #CombatDiver #History #Emblems www.combatdiver.org

Combat Diver History Wayne Fisk edition: 8/x #CombatDiver #Pararescue #PJ SS MAYAGUEZ EDITION To this day, the Mayaguez incident is roiled in controversy. Casualties of the incident totaled 38 Servicemen killed, 49 wounded, and 3 missing (later declared dead). As of 2018, five service members from the incident remain unaccounted for. In the chaos of the extraction, three Marines were left behind. Lance Corporal Joseph N. Hargrove, Private First Class Gary Hall, and Private First Class Danny Marshall had been on west beach protecting a perimeter flank. It has been reported that the three were later captured and executed by the Khmer Rouge; however, it is also unclear if the Marines were still alive at the time the last helicopter left. In his 2014 interview with the Vietnam War Commemoration, Fisk described the confusion of the landing zone and the heroic efforts of the aircrew to land their severely damaged aircraft on the beach. For the lieutenants at the controls, it was their first exposure to combat and they performed brilliantly. Wayne also describes the effect of American firepower as he left Knife 51 in search of additional Marines. About supporting fire from the AC-130 at that moment he says: "Just a beautiful curtain of red hate steel. I mean, it's just coming down. It's a curtain of red and orange and yellow off over here...it's like a vacation for a minute." In the same interview Fisk says that between the AC-130 fire and the intense enemy action, it is doubtful the missing Marines were still alive when Knife 51 left the beach. The names of the Americans killed during the Mayaguez incident are the final names etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. _____ Join us as we set sail with Wayne on the CDF Winter Cruise this December.
