Columbus Humane seeks a dedicated Clinical and Surgical Veterinarian to join the Essential Care Center (CHECC) team. This full-time role involves providing high-quality, subsidized veterinary care, including wellness, medical, and surgical services, for at-risk pets while actively participating in veterinary student education. The position requires an experienced veterinarian skilled in high-volume spay/neuter, dental, and soft-tissue procedures. In addition, you will also serve as an adjunct faculty member with The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Ideal candidates are collaborative, compassionate, and community-oriented, with a passion for advancing animal welfare.

These dedicated students have demonstrated exceptional commitment and perseverance, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments. A special thank-you to our incredible program partners, Jewish Family Services and ASPYR (formerly the Workforce Development Board of Central Ohio). Their partnership strengthens our mission and helps build a healthier, more compassionate community. Through 30 hours of hands-on labs and 40 hours of classroom instruction at the Columbus Humane Essential Care Center, our graduates have gained valuable knowledge and skills. Now, they’re prepared to embark on 90 hours of on-the-job training at local veterinary clinics. With job placement assistance and continued learning opportunities awaiting them, these graduates are poised for impactful careers in animal health. Columbus Humane's Essential Care Center on South High conducts low-cost wellness exams and vaccinations for dogs and cats on a first-come, first-served basis every Friday. This service is for individuals who can not otherwise afford veterinary care. WHEN: Fridays | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM WHERE: 3772 S High St, Columbus, OH 43207 WELLNESS EXAM FOR CATS Includes: Exam and consultation and vaccinations (FVRCP and Rabies). Wellness Plus Exam includes FELV/FIV testing. Flea and tick treatment is available for an additional fee. Our shelter programs serve nearly 8,000 annually animals through rehoming, veterinary care, animal cruelty investigations and domestic violence support services. Each animal that comes through our doors is given the support and care they need, whether they are in need of a new home or a safe place to stay while in temporary crisis.
