Where the Columbus, OH community connects on shaping a thriving workplace culture.

关于我们

Welcome to the Columbus Culture First community! ?? This is where the Columbus, Ohio community connects on shaping a thriving workplace culture. Who are we? A group of people in Columbus, Ohio united in the shared belief that a better world of work is possible. Our mission is to create a better world of work today, so we can have a better future of living, tomorrow. Our vision is to bring together people who are passionate about unlocking humanity at work through inspiring experiences and purposeful connections. What does it mean to be Culture First? For organizations to grow and thrive, the world of work has to work better for People. Being ‘Culture First’ is about recognizing this simple truth and then finding ways to act on it. It’s easier said than done, but we’ve found something that helps tremendously — working through issues as a community. Our 5 core principles for how we do things around here: ? Foster belonging and acceptance. We create environments where diverse opinions, orientations, and perspectives are embraced and valued. We cultivate people’s wholeness and humanity. ? Be willing to reflect and grow. We take an honest look at the things that can be improved in our workplaces and in our own leadership. We want to challenge and support one another to develop ourselves and our organizations. ? Have the courage to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is at the heart of courage. We create safe environments for people to explore deeper levels of vulnerability. Changing the way we work is hard and takes vulnerability. ? Putting learning into action. Our goal is to create change in the world. For this to happen, we need to act on what we’re learning together about how to build better workplaces and cultures. ? Connection inside, business outside. This is not just another networking group or a place to push business cards. We realize and expect, that connections and business opportunities will come from this community. However, the goal of our community

  • Step away from the hustle and join us for a slow morning of real conversations. No pitches. No pressure. Just people coming together to explore what it means to build a better world of work. In the 1700s, Benjamin Franklin gathered thinkers, doers, and changemakers to exchange ideas, challenge the status quo, and shape the future. They called it The Junto. In that same spirit, we’re inviting you—a fellow change agent and people leader in Columbus—to join us for a morning of meaningful conversations at The Junto hotel. This isn’t just another coffee meet-up, networking event, or a place to push business cards. It’s a space for those who believe in creating a better world of work—where people, purpose, and culture come first. Whether you’re looking to meet new people or deepen existing relationships, this gathering brings together humans committed to cultivating thriving workplace cultures. Event Details: ?? Community Program Manager | Creating a better world of work

Ever feel like people are just in your way? Yet another obstacle to overcome? That coworker who knows everything and treats you like a roadblock. The friend who only calls when they need something. The leader who always overlooks your ideas, like you're invisible. When someone has an Inward Mindset, it’s easy for them to treat you as an object. You become an obstacle, tool, or just plain irrelevant. You're not alone! At yesterday's Columbus Culture First gathering, everyone shared stories of feeling stuck in this cycle. But here's the catch . . . When we see others as the problem, we’re often practicing an inward mindset too. Benjamin Bowling led an incredible workshop of how that mindset might be holding you back more than you think. Some eye-opening takeaways highlighting how our frustrations with others reinforce the very behaviors we’re complaining about: ? The box of self-deception: When we feel betrayed or wronged, we justify our actions by putting others in a box. We tell ourselves, "I’m right to feel this way," even when it limits our perspective. This keeps us stuck in a narrow view, where we treat others in ways that trigger the very behavior we complain about. ? Inward vs. Outward Mindset: With an inward mindset, we justify frustration, treating others like objects for our personal gain. With an outward mindset, we see them as people that matter as much as we do. That they have needs, goals, and struggles just as real as our own. ? The simplest way to shift outward? The first step is realizing that you might be in the box. Next time you’re frustrated with someone, give yourself some time and space. Then, pause and ask yourself: What are their needs? What might they be experiencing? What’s influencing their behavior? What pressure are they under? This shift opens the door to connection instead of confrontation. ? We’re all guilty of it. It’s easy to fall into an inward mindset when we feel hurt, unheard, or unappreciated. But once we recognize our role in perpetuating the cycle, we can break free and change the narrative. Ben’s workshop emphasized that breaking out of the box starts with accepting that we can only control our own reactions. Shifting to an outward mindset opens the door for connection, but that doesn’t guarantee the other person will walk through it. Sometimes, they won’t. But you still have the power to invite change. What’s one way you noticed your actions provoked the very behaviors that frustrate you? Drop your thoughts in the comments! ?? Massive thanks to Tony Reilly and Ascend Advisory Group for the space, food, and drinks.?And to Meri Kullberg and Molly Zwelling for co-leading this journey. #CultureFirst #ColumbusCultureFirst Culture Amp

  • In a world that feels more divided by the day, how we see each other matters more than ever. We're all like roommates sharing this pale blue dot we call Earth together. Sometimes roommates fight, argue, and disagree. Differing lifestyle habits, poor communication, not respecting personal space, unequal sharing of chores, disagreements over cleanliness standards, and sometimes clashing personalities. Even though we don't get to choose our roommates here on Earth or in the workplace, we still have to make it work. What if the key to better relationships, stronger teams, and more meaningful impact starts with shifting your mindset? Join us for our upcoming gathering: Developing an Outward Mindset Where our featured guest Benjamin Bowling will teach us how the way we view others shapes our outcomes — at work, at home, and everywhere in between. This isn’t just another leadership lesson, it’s a chance to reflect, connect, and walk away with tools to create real change. Beyond grateful to the team at Ascend Advisory Group and Tony Reilly for hosting us at their beautiful space in Dublin, Ohio. As always, we'll provide the food and drinks, you just need to bring your curiosity. Seats are limited, so click the RSVP link below to grab yours now. Let’s have the conversations that matter most!
