Columbia Gas of Virginia was proud to participate in the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD)'s Energy Careers Discovery Zone in Washington, D.C. this week. Our employees talked with participants and guided them through exhibits that allowed them to repair a natural gas leak, locate a natural gas line, assess and compare how damaged and normal facilities look and how the damage could be mitigated by contacting 811 before digging. Employees from our Suffolk Operations Center accepted a big honor on behalf of Columbia Gas of Virginia last week at the Community Outreach Coalition's Community Impact Showcase. We were thrilled to be recognized for our volunteer efforts including sponsoring the organization’s golf tournament in September, as well as participating in its program called “Serving Seniors – Thanksgiving edition,” where we packaged, sorted and delivered meals to senior citizens who live alone or do not have the capabilities to cook. Employees who were at the awards ceremony include Ashley Wade, Paul Jones, Torey Wright, Westley Holland and Travis Quinerly.

Columbia Gas of Virginia teamed up this week with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at our Suffolk Operations Center. Nearly two dozen Columbia Gas employees rolled up their sleeves and donated blood during the drive. As a result, our donations could help potentially save 60 lives! Such insightful learnings from the Virginia LDC conference! We heard about the State and National Economic outlook, the VA Energy Plan, pending PHMSA rules, and RNG. We had an open dialogue with the SCC staff and LDCs. I was especially delighted to be on the LDC Presidents panel on Economic development, Regionalism and Workforce development representing Columbia Gas of Virginia with colleagues Shannon O. Pierce of Virginia Natural Gas, James McClain of Southwestern Virginia Gas Co and Jim Steffes of Washington Gas.
