Brilliant women lawyers make up nearly half of our team, and our firm has long championed women in the Bar. In 1998, our President, Lewis S. "Mike" Eidson, funded AAJ’s Mike Eidson Law Student Scholarship in collaboration with American Association for Justice’s Women Trial Lawyers Caucus. The scholarship annually supports women committed to pursuing careers as trial lawyers. That same year, he and the firm established the Kessler-Eidson Foundation at Emory University School of Law, which has since benefited more than 100 female law students. Colson Hicks Eidson managing partner Dean Colson attended and spoke at a street naming ceremony hosted by Commissioner Marleine Bastien to honor H.T. Smith’s lifelong commitment to justice and advocacy for Miami-Dade County. A portion of NW 69th Street will be renamed "H.T. Smith Street" to recognize his pioneering work as one of Miami-Dade’s top attorneys. After serving in the Vietnam War and earning his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami, Smith became Miami-Dade County’s first Black assistant public defender, later founding the city’s first Black-owned law firm. He has also raised millions of dollars to help South Florida youth with the NFL Yet Center and through his role on the Board of Directors of OUR KIDS, Inc. Join us in congratulating H.T. This Women’s History Month, Colson Hicks Eidson congratulates partners Julie Kane and Stephanie Casey who were named Florida Trend Legal Elite NOTABLE: Women Leaders in Law for their significant contributions and leadership in the legal profession. Stephanie was recognized for her representation of injured consumers and her skills in complex litigation, including recent successes in ERISA health insurance benefits cases. Acknowledged by Chambers USA as “an excellent lawyer,” she actively contributes to the legal community as a Board member and former President of the South Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, reflecting her commitment to mentorship and leadership in the profession. Julie was recognized for her representation of plaintiffs in high-stakes personal injury and complex class action cases, leveraging over three decades of experience. Her accomplishments include serving as lead and liaison counsel in significant multidistrict and consolidated national litigation and securing notable verdicts and settlements in products liability, medical malpractice and negligence cases. A strong advocate for the underrepresented, she has spearheaded efforts to safeguard electoral access and has held leadership roles in the American Association for Justice and the Miami-Dade Florida Association of Women Lawyers. Colson Hicks Eidson attorneys Curt Miner, Zach Lipshultz, Aziza Elayan, and paralegal Michelle Roberto were recently featured in the Daily Business Review after securing a significant win for Brookfield Properties in the Broward County Circuit Court. After a seven-year litigation battle, a Broward jury found no liability in the case brought by David Stern, who had sued over alleged water damage at his penthouse in the Castillo Grand Residences, a luxury condo in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel building. “We tried to keep it simple and understandable,” Curt Miner said. “?This is a case where there were a number of expert witnesses on the plaintiff's side and a number of expert witnesses on our side, and everything from roof drains to roof membranes to the sliding glass door system to curtain walls, but throughout we just tried to keep it simple and understandable without getting too lost in the weeds.” #ColsonHicksEidson #CaseWin #ClientSuccess
