While most people understand that colonoscopies can detect cancer, 57% are unaware that these screenings can prevent colorectal cancer by removing precancerous polyps. If you're 45 or older, have a family history of colorectal cancer, or are experiencing any symptoms at any age, talk to your doctor about getting screened for colorectal cancer. Visit getscreened.org to learn more about your screening options and take a short quiz.

Dr. Lisette Caesar has always believed in the power of resilience, teaching her students that no barrier is insurmountable. Thank you to all those that laced up their shoes yesterday and walked with us at DC ScopeItOut or from your neighborhood! The energy and hope we felt were undeniable, and every step taken was a statement: we will end colorectal cancer in our lifetime. You heard how the Colorectal Cancer Alliance is driving life-saving research and guiding patients through screening and treatment. But with federal research funding slashed, our efforts must go further — and faster. The time to act is now. Please make an additional pledge of support for patients, caregivers, and survivors today ?? https://lnkd.in/ejzY7emy Thank you to Taiho Oncology, Inc. for their support of DC ScopeItOut.

According to our survey conducted by Wakefield Research, 69% of Americans would rather file their taxes than get a colonoscopy. Take a short screening quiz at quiz.getscreened.org.

I Never Thought It Would Be Me. For years, I’ve reported on the importance of early cancer screenings—never imagining I’d be the story. But last November, at 46 years old, my first “routine” colonoscopy revealed 13 polyps and a 2cm mass that was later identified as colorectal cancer. I had no symptoms. No family history. No warning signs. Just a gut feeling that it was my time to get screened. I believe that decision saved my life. The days that followed were a blur—waiting for pathology, telling my children, facing major surgery. The fear was real, but so was my faith. On January 10, 2025 surgeons at UC San Diego removed the cancer, and 13 days later, I got the news that I was cancer free. Healing has been humbling. I’ve learned to adjust to life with a temporary #ostomy. My journey isn’t over—I still have another surgery ahead. But through it all, I’ve learned that gratitude is one of the most powerful antidotes to fear. This March, for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, I’m sharing my story on NBC 7 San Diego, Telemundo 20 and with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance to encourage everyone to get screened. Colorectal cancer is the deadliest cancer for men under 50 and second deadliest for women under 50 —but it’s also highly preventable if caught early. The screening age is now 45, but if you have risk factors, talk to your doctor sooner. I never expected to be here, but as a career storyteller, I believe our stories can save lives. If mine encourages even one person to get screened, it’s worth it. Don’t wait. See the link below to watch Steven Luke’s thoughtful #NBC7 report, read more about my story and watch our half-hour special on our YouTube channel that includes important information about symptoms and screenings. #ColorectalCancerAwareness #GetScreened #EarlyDetectionSavesLives https://lnkd.in/g4Tu_rUK
