Legacy documents the beautiful and sometimes painful stories of a deep love for agriculture in the State of Colorado. Our partners at the Colorado Farm Bureau worked with experts statewide to create this glimpse into the lives and struggles of producers. This film helps mental and behavioral health providers understand the stresses of agricultural workers and producers. All screenings are free but tickets are required, because a light dinner will be served. We hope you can join us at one or more of the locations!

Agrivoltaics is proving to be quite the show (or should we say 'wind') stopper!
Agrivoltaics can do more than just resolve land use conflicts between solar developers and farmers. On April 6th and 7th, a strong low pressure system moved through northeast Colorado.?This intense storm brought 60 to 80 mph sustained wind speeds to portions of Colorado’s eastern plains, with 100 mph wind gusts recorded near the foothills of Boulder.?Our agrivoltaic demonstration site near Haxtun, Colorado experienced sustained winds of 50+ mph and hurricane force wind gusts. During this extreme and prolonged wind event, Longboard Power’s patented Agrivoltaic Shelterbelt performed as designed.?Acting as a wind break, the Agrivoltaic Shelterbelt was able to reduce leeward wind speeds by over 40% and minimize wind-induced soil erosion to Roy Pfaltzgraff’s farm fields (https://www.pfzfarms.com). ?And when other utilities’ customers were losing power due to downed power lines (or from their electric utility preemptively de-energizing a portion of their system), the Agrivoltaic Shelterbelt was able to reliably produce power during this extreme weather event. Damage assessment to the Agrivoltaic Shelterbelt after this near-48 hour extreme weather event:?NONE - No fluttering or torsional galloping; no broken panels; no structural deformation. ? Clean, renewable energy ? Mitigate wind-induced soil erosion ? Reliable power during extreme weather events Agrivoltaics can do more; a whole lot more.?Stay tuned. CDA is looking to fill two new Regional Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture positions that will serve as a liaison between the Department and agricultural communities across Colorado. These regionally based positions will average 5-10 hours per week, will be based in diverse agricultural communities, and will operate with a high level of flexibility to allow for working farmers, ranchers or ag workers to consider this role. We're looking to fill these spots with leaders from agricultural communities who are skilled in engaging local decision makers, building and strengthening relationships, and who are committed to increasing equity, diversity and inclusion in agriculture. The Regional Assistant Commissioner applicants should be able to demonstrate a wide range of community involvement and have experience that covers multiple areas of the agricultural industry.
