Lancelot’s Journey to Soundness?? Lancelot has been on quite the road to recovery, and we’re thrilled to share he’s feeling better than ever! ??? Diagnosed with early-stage navicular disease, he struggled with front foot pain, stiffness, and discomfort under saddle. Our vet recommended Osphos—a game-changer for the control of clinical signs associated with navicular syndrome in horses four years and older. Unfortunately, it was on backorder. In the meantime, we kept him comfortable with joint injections, specialized farrier work, and careful rehab. Thanks to the WAGS AND MENACE MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOUNDATION, Lancelot received the care he needed, including his Osphos treatment, which finally arrived in January. Within weeks, his movement improved! ?? Training Updates: Despite time off under saddle, Lancelot returned with energy and enthusiasm. His ground pole work, balance, and lateral movements have improved, and he’s feeling good! ? What’s next? Continued conditioning, refining balance, and ensuring long-term comfort. But today, we’re celebrating—Osphos has helped bring back his spark! A huge thank you to the Wags and Menace Make a Difference Foundation for funding his medical treatment! #CHRLancelot?#ColoradoHorseRescue?#RescueHorses #Horses?#GoodHorses?#WagsandMenace?#HorseTraining

We are COLORADO HORSE RESCUE, and we are building a better future for horses. We see it. We believe in it. And we are here to make it happen. As a 501(c)(3) impact organization operating in Colorado since 1986, we work to continuously reimagine what’s possible and create a reality where safe solutions exist for every horse. RESCUE: Imagine a world where no horses fall through the cracks. We see it, and it’s why we actively seek out and take in all types of at-risk horses. We enable owners who have fallen on tough times to rehome their beloved horses without judgment. We also keep our eyes, minds, and gates open to horses who would otherwise be sent to slaughter or unsafe conditions via auction or sale. EDUCATE: Imagine a time where horses are no longer thought of only as tools or sports equipment. We see it, so we help educate the public on responsible horse ownership, engage with our communities to address the issues facing our industry today, and inspire people to invite horses into their lives—as companions, riding horses or other respected roles. CARE: Imagine a society that empowers every horse to reach their potential. We see it, and we uphold the highest standards of care, rehabilitation and training to help them get there. Complacency isn’t care, so we work to wake up and unite the equine industry to give every horse the life they deserve. We also lead with compassion, providing responsible last acts of kindness to those in need. ADOPT: Imagine a culture where every horse is valued. We see it, and every successful adoption brings us closer. Our matching process is strategic by design, creating solid horse-and-human partnerships that last and a return rate that’s remarkably low.

From neglect to nurture — Maeve has officially found her forever home! ?? Colorado Horse Rescue has seen a staggering 200% increase in animal control seizures in the past two years. Maeve was one of those horses—rescued alongside Pluto and Dublin, she arrived at CHR underweight and in desperate need of care. With time, expert rehabilitation, and plenty of love, she began her journey to recovery, proving just how resilient horses can be when given a second chance. After months of rehabilitation, Maeve joined CHR’s Companion Connection program, where she gained confidence and skills to prepare for adoption. That’s when Alyssa saw her story in a video created by Home For Every Horse. She knew she was the one. Now, Maeve is thriving in her new home with her best friend, Laney. “These two have literally become inseparable,” Alyssa shared. “Where Maeve goes, Laney goes!” Maeve’s story is a testament to the power of second chances. Thank you to everyone who helped her find the loving home she deserves! Titan, a 5-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, arrived at CHR with debilitating arthritis — shocking for a horse so young. Pushed too hard, too soon, his racing career ended before it even began. Now, he requires specialized veterinary care and training to ensure he has the long, happy life he deserves. ?? Sadly, Titan’s story is not unique. Too many young horses are worked beyond their limits, their bodies breaking down before they even have a chance. Without CHR, horses like Titan face an uncertain future, at risk of being discarded or falling into the slaughter pipeline. Your gift provides a vital safety net — expert care, compassionate training, and a second chance at life. With your support, CHR remains a place of hope, where horses like Titan can heal and thrive. Your kindness changes lives. Give horses like Titan a fresh start. From Feral to Friend: Jerri’s Journey with Micah?? When Jerri retired from her full-time job, she knew she wanted to give back—but she wasn’t sure where. Then she read an article about retirement that encouraged looking back to childhood passions. For Jerri, that meant horses. ?? In 2018, she started volunteering at CHR, drawn to the mission of giving every horse a second chance. When the Companion Connection program was launched, she jumped at the opportunity to work with horses that needed more exposure, more experiences, and more handling in general – like Micah. Micah arrived at CHR in 2021 wary, unhandled, and nearly impossible to catch. But through years of patient work, Jerri helped him transform into a horse who now seeks out human interaction and even enjoys groundwork and liberty training. Jerri’s story with Micah is a powerful reminder of why programs like Companion Connection matter. They help non-riding horses build the skills and confidence they need to find loving homes. Ellie, registered as Te Bar Baby, is a 23-year-old American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) mare with a heart of gold and a playful spirit. Since arriving at Colorado Horse Rescue in 2018, Ellie has been fostered twice. In her most recent home, she provided comfort and companionship to a horse during her final years of life.?Now, she is ready to find her forever home. At CHR, 52% of our placements in 2024 were companion horses like Ellie. Through our Companion Connection program, we’re not only finding loving homes for these deserving retirees but also showcasing the powerful, positive impact they have on both horses and humans. Horses are instinctively herd animals, and their well-being depends on the security and social connection of living with other horses. Isolation can lead to stress-related behaviors like cribbing, pacing, and even weight loss. But with a companion, horses feel safer, more relaxed, and free to express natural behaviors like mutual grooming and playing. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, CHR is able to help horses like Ellie find the forever homes they truly deserve.
