Absolutely effing ecstatic to have wrapped my first day at COLOR as the newly minted Head of Strategy! I've had the pleasure of knowing parts of the COLOR team over the past few years and can say without a doubt that we have the opportunity to create some diabolocal work together. What I'm not ecstatic about is the stock illustration catalog for announcements available on LinkedIn. So rather than inundate all the feeds with more #newjob stock photography, we've pulled in two of the most popular themes IRL. Bouncier balloons and tastier cupcakes. And I would be remiss not to shout out my lovely friends of the past 14+ years Catalysis for allowing me to grow (my skills and beard), work with all types of amazing clients, MC various company get-togethers, and take part in random activities over what some would consider half an eternity at an agency. Vercel’s rebrand from Zeit was a bold reinvention. To push them to the next level, we created a retro-futuristic identity with prism-inspired graphics, soft gradients, and airy typography. Branding work is tough, especially when it’s for yourself. We refreshed our own brand this year, and no surprise – it was hard. One major lesson we learned: creative debt. It’s the pitfall of skipping key steps to rush to the “shiny” stuff. Without defining your brand’s “why” first, you end up with a look that doesn’t resonate deeply.
