Unum Group employees have been busy showing our #CaringSpirit throughout our communities. Here is just a handful of recent events we've participated in: In Portland, 5 employees made over 400 sandwiches for Preble Street to distribute to their community. A group of us attended the Go Red for Women Luncheon for the American Heart Association, looking dazzling in red! We painted murals that the Ronald McDonald House of Columbia will install to brighten their facilities. We visited schools that are part of the Classroom Catalyst program, which empowers educators to create student-centered learning experiences through innovative projects and lessons. Finally, a group of employees packed earplugs for the Auditory Verbal Center in Atlanta.

As part of our Heroes for Hunger community efforts, we've asked one of our partners to share how they collect food from various sources for their community. Here is what Mike Manning, President and CEO of Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank had to say: "We acquire food through donations from individuals, retail stores, and food manufacturers as well as purchase food through programs such as The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), USDA, and Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Food is processed, distributed, and stored in our 172,000-square-foot warehouse, where staff and volunteers sort, inspect, and package food provided to more than 135 partner agencies in our service area. Corporate partnerships, like with Unum Group, play a vital role in our success by helping us to expand our impact and reach within our community. Efforts through retail and manufacturer donations and bulk purchasing and discounts allow us to better utilize our donor dollars to provide more food to those in need. Financial contributions help us fund programs, warehouse operations, and key initiatives. Volunteer engagement and employee giving from employers show they are dedicated to bettering their community," shares Mike Manning, President and CEO of Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Community partners like Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank provide special ways for our team members to show their caring spirit and make an impact in their local communities, like Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Our Voluntary Benefits team recently gathered to kick off 2025. A new year brings challenges for businesses of all sizes, but our exceptional teams are committed to delivering the smoothest benefits experience in the market. We were honored to have keynote speaker Justin Forsett join us for this special event. As Justin said, “Why be good when great is available?” We’re excited about the great work our teams will deliver in 2025!

What an exciting weekend of basketball in the Colonial Life Arena at University of South Carolina with our Unum and Colonial Life team members! Leaders Michelle White and Steve Jones had the honor of presenting the tip-off ball for both the women's and men's basketball games, kicking off the festivities. #GoGamecocks

Each January, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) through service to the communities where we live and work. In Portland, we invited two of our non-profit partners, Best Buddies Maine and In Her Presence, to enjoy a performance by Unique Unknown with the Children's Museum & Theater of Maine. Several groups of employees went to the Partners for World Health and helped pack care kits. We made it easy for employees to get trained in hand-only CPR by hosting a training on our campus by the American Red Cross. In Chattanooga, we helped the Northside Neighborhood Project by sorting shoe donations for the Northshore Thrift Store. The unusually cold conditions in the South caused us to postpone several planned events, but we managed to get some volunteering in before the snow came. We packed fresh fruit & vegetable boxes for FoodShare South Carolina and Unum Atlanta employees packed snack packs and hygiene kits for Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities. It was a great week to share our caring spirit. #UnumCares
