In Yorktown, Virginia, vehicle traffic regularly ran off this road edge, damaging the pavement edge and rutting the ditch line. The soft and low flow ditch line meant a stone wedge wouldn't provide enduring support and the VDOT Residency wanted a solution that wouldn't require regular maintenance. 6-inch GEOWEB® was installed to provide load support for the low shoulder because it added structural stability over the soft soil and could support regular vehicle use. Stabilizing a steepened, southwest-facing slope during a Summer drought in Virginia is no easy feat. The first seeding effort failed to establish through the coconut matting, likely due to drought. On the second take, seed and wood mulch were overseeded into the coconut blanket but again failed to establish. We suggested applying ECBVerdyol Biotic Earth Biotic Soil Amendment on the third seeding attempt with concentrated spray directly into the coconut blanket. Adding the Biotic Soil Amendment gave the seed and the soil exactly what it needed. It provided a growing medium within the existing erosion control measures and helped in the release of our client's permit. Some sites are simply harder to seed than others because soil conditions, topography, and the weather all affect the outcome.
