The common bond, voice, and power for the Colorado library community.

关于我们

The Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) is the common bond, voice, and power for the library community. We are united to advocate for quality library services, support access to information, and foster the professional development of our members. Through CAL's efforts, Colorado libraries will be essential to the enrichment of all Colorado communities. The Association will be the most powerful advocate for all library issues in the state. As a model association, CAL will be the first choice for leadership, advocacy, and professional development. CAL members are librarians, library employees, institutions, and corporations drawn from public, school, academic, and special libraries; public library trustees; education administrators; library service providers; library vendors; volunteers; and library supporters.

  • Update from the CAL Legislative Committee HB1158 Stand with the Colorado Association of Libraries to OPPOSE HB 25-1158 due to its overly broad restrictions on academic online research tools and subscription databases. Our core concern with HB 25-1158 is that its overly broad language will create unintended consequences for school library databases and education. The bill prohibits curated digital research collections from containing embedded links or uniform resource locators (URLs) without differentiating between various types of hyperlinks. Not all links serve the same purpose; many academic research tools include embedded citations, references, and links to full-text resources or scholarly citations ("times cited") that add value to research rather than serving a commercial purpose. The complete elimination of URLs would severely disrupt students' ability to conduct research and evaluate sources. SB63 The Colorado Association of Libraries strongly endorses SB63 (2025), proposed legislation that protects the freedom to read in school libraries and provides necessary legal safeguards for school librarians and staff in the state. Contact your elected officials in Colorado and ask them to advance this bill: https://lnkd.in/ggQmkJBA For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/gEvAirur

  • Join the CAL Public Libraries Interest Group on Wednesday, February 12, 10-11:30 a.m. Topic: Serving Older Adults Older adults are the fastest growing age group in Colorado, and people over 50 outnumber people younger than 18. This training will make you generationally competent so that you can serve older adults in an effective and a respectful manner. Learn about the developmental stages of aging, the personality and neurological changes that happen as we age (hint: your brain does not get worse, it just gets different), the problem of ageism, and the pioneering work that DPL does for this population. This training is a "good news" training that will give you lots to embrace about the process of getting older. Not only will this training make you more effective at working with older adults, it might even help you in your own journey of aging. Presented by Amy DelPo, the Manager of Older Adult Services at the Denver Public Library Details to join here: https://lnkd.in/gb6gE-yr
