Recruiting Brainfood is a once-a-week, recruiting e-newsletter manually curated by Hung Lee. It features content from non-mainstream sources and is delivered via email to more than 38,000 recruiters and other HR professionals worldwide. Hung also hosts a weekly panel discussion on Recruiting Brainfood Live where he dives into time issues related to sourcing; employment branding; diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; artificial intelligence; recruitment marketing; candidate experience; recruitment operations; and anything else the community wants to talk about. In this episode, Hung and guests Kate Bischoff of k8bisch, LLC; Mike Bruni of Talent Acquisition Strategies, and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site discuss Elon Musk's U.S. Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE). Is it a threat to human resources and talent acquisition in the U.S. and, by extension, other countries?

Our founder, Steven Rothberg, recently interviewed Mark Chaffey of hackajob for the Inside Job Boards and Recruitment Marketplaces Podcast. College Recruiter's pricing model is pretty standard for job boards: we charge some employers to post, when the candidate clicks to apply, or when the candidate applies. Hackajob, as Steven and cohost Peter M. Zollman learned, doesn't. Instead, employers request interviews with registered candidates and pay when those candidates agree to be interviewed.
Tackling fake applicants using pricing | ep97 Our?guest?on today's episode of the Inside Job Boards and Recruitment Marketplaces Podcast is Mark Chaffey, the cofounder and CEO of UK-based hackajob. Hackajob matches candidates with tech jobs in the UK, USA, and India. Candidates do not apply to jobs but, instead, the employer applies to the candidates. The employer describes the role, the AI lists matches, the employer requests interviews, and the candidates choose whether to accept them. When they do, the employer pays. In today's episode, our?cohosts, Peter M. Zollman of AIM Group (Marketplaces / Classifieds) and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site discuss with Mark why, as Cory Kapner of Recruitics says, some friction in the hiring process is a good thing and charging candidates a nominal fee to apply to a job, as Alexander Chukovski of crypto-careers.com suggested on LinkedIn, is a good idea but not without its own problems.

What is backfill and why do job boards use it? This month's gathering of dozens of leaders of job boards globally -- our 8th since August 2024 -- discussed backfill, which is when Job Board A sends some of its job posting ads to Job Board B. Not all job boards send or receive postings this way, but almost all of the higher-traffic ones do. There are many reasons why a job board will distribute (syndicate) some or even all of its postings to other job boards, and many reasons why a job board will import those jobs. One is revenue: driving candidate traffic from your site to another can result in getting paid for that traffic, typically per click or application. Another is content: if you have only a posting or two of interest to a candidate, they'll be unlikely to respond to either and even less likely to come back. Should your job board engage in backfill? What are the pros and cons? What are some tips and tricks? A big thank you to Job Boards Connect for sponsoring!

Impact of AI on quantity and quality of job applications Spend any time talking with just about anyone involved in hiring and you'll hear concerns about greatly increased quantity of applications, greatly decreased quality, or even both. We believe that every student and recent grad deserves a great career and that it should be easy and inexpensive for employers to hire them. Our founder, Steven Rothberg, recently talked with Ben Groves, head of publisher partnerships, and Glen Handrahan, head of employer sales, to talk about why so many believe that problems with quantity or quality are due to AI, if that's true, and offer up some solutions. We talked about tools like LazyApply, The Stepstone Group, JobCopilot, JobQuest, ChatGPT, ZipRecruiter, Indeed, JobSync, ATS, and Mercor. Employers are clearly receiving more applications, but is quality actually poorer, or are candidates using tools to eliminate spelling and other clerical errors that used to cause employers to infer low quality?

Our founder, Steven Rothberg, interviews Michael Ang of JobElephant on today's High Volume Hiring Podcast about the differences between the recruitment marketing done by corporate employers who are hiring at scale versus similarly sized but government and higher education employers.
Recruitment ad agency's secrets in using tech and posting jobs | ep85 Our?guest?on today's episode of the High Volume Hiring Podcast is Michael Ang, founder and CEO of Jobelephant.com. JobElephant is a recruitment advertising agency that focuses on higher education and government employers with hiring needs in North America. Michael founded it way back in 2000, so just as the world of recruitment advertising was transitioning from print to digital. One of our cohosts, Jeanette Leeds, was unavailable to be with us and so our other, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site, explored with Michael how his clients differ from corporate employers who hire at scale and, as a result, so do the tools that his team recommends.

Our founder, Steven Rothberg, was joined for today's episode of the Inside Job Boards and Recruitment Marketplaces Podcast by his cohost, Peter M. Zollman of AIM Group (Marketplaces / Classifieds), and their guest, Shauna Cole of hirediverse.ca to discuss how diversity job boards globally -- not just in the USA -- are adapting to a changing political climate. Just as diversity looks different in different areas of the world, so do the motivations for employers in terms of how they view diversity, why they choose to hire diverse candidates, and how they measure the results of their diversity-focused job board partners.
How are diversity job boards adapting to changing political climates | ep96 Our?guest?on today's episode of the Inside Job Boards and Recruitment Marketplaces Podcast is Shauna Cole, the president and founder of a leading, Canadian, diversity job board, hirediverse.ca. Before we even started to speak with Shauna, our?cohosts, Peter M. Zollman of AIM Group (Marketplaces / Classifieds) and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site, mentioned that last week's guest was another founder, Jeff Taylor (founder of Monster); Steven will discuss USA diversity and other hiring issues on Hung Lee's Recruiting Brainfood on March 21st; and Peter will at RecBuzz in Vienna on April 8th and 9th. Diversity means very different things in different markets. In the U.S., it has been far more about legal compliance than in Canada and some other markets. Shauna talks about that, including providing insights into the make-up of her employer customers and how different customers evaluate her site differently.
