It was an honor and a pleasure to travel to DC to lobby on behalf of the IECA Government Relations Committee. I'm not sure what our short term impact was in these unsettled times, but hopefully we are continuing to build relationships that will benefit youth organizations, colleges, students and families in the long term! https://lnkd.in/gnkvMvEh for more!

The incredible Adam Ingersoll at Compass Prep sent out a note to the world today about a major glitch with the March 8 SAT. Here is the synopsized information I sent to my students - if you have or know a current junior who may have been affected, please share: Hello juniors!?If you did NOT take the SAT yesterday (3/8/25), you can ignore this email. For those who took the exam and had no weird timing issues, you can ignore this email, too. If you sat for the SAT on Saturday, March 8 and the exam automatically submitted itself at 11am, please read on. The College Board had a known glitch and sent a message to test-takers and proctors that everyone should reboot their computers and log into Bluebook again.?Unfortunately, this message was sent very late and many students and proctors missed it.?The "glitch" caused some students' SATs to self-submit at 11am local time, no matter when the student started the test.?So if you were at a testing site that started right on time, you might have been ok.?But if you started after 8:36am local time, the test might have closed out on you while you were still working in the math section. If this happened to you, you should have received an email from the College Board offering you some options.?The primary option is to cancel your test and retake it in the future (possibly on 3/22 if you are available and your testing site can offer the test on that date).?I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT TAKE THIS OPTION!?There are a whole slew of reasons, not the least of which is that almost every college allows for score choice and/or superscoring of exams.?There are only a tiny percentage of colleges that require that you submit every sitting - and if you happen to apply to one of those schools, you can simply put a note in the Additional Information section explaining that the College Board gremlin attacked your test and that's why your math score is lower than in other sittings.?I cannot imagine a scenario where a college will not take this information into consideration. You may have crushed the reading/writing section.?You may have actually crushed the math even if you didn't get to answer one last question.?I hate for you to forego the opportunity to see your scores and make your own decision about whether you want to retake the exam. Now here's the kicker.?College Board is requiring that you take action if you want to KEEP your scores.?All of this should be in the email you received, but here's the critical bit:?Please note that if you choose to keep your score, you must contact Customer Service by March 20 via the form at www.sat.org/inquiry and select the topic "Scores," or alternatively you can call customer service.

It is a brave new world; the House v NCAA settlement is now being codified into NCAA legislation opening a new era of direct cash payments to student-athletes in addition to scholarships. There are also other significant trends on the horizon as well: ? For Power 4 and other “opt-in” conferences/institutions, roster caps rather than scholarship limits will be the new reality. ? Title IX is no longer going to be enforced. ? NCAA Division 1 is splitting into “opt-in” and “opt-out” conferences/programs on top of the FBS/FCS divide. ? NIL regulation still needs to be formalized in some way. Get the whole story here: https://lnkd.in/gQZfEmX #CollegeSports #NCAA #NIL #Recruiting #HouseSettlement

A humble suggestion for #MLKDay that you engage with Dr. King's legacy at a deeper level than textbook/TV quotes. His words and ideas in context are as inspiring and meaningful today as they were when he was sharing them. https://lnkd.in/gCw3chnk

This is a pretty smart assessment in NIL. Things are going to keep evolving rapidly, the big guys are going to maintain (or try to maintain) their advantages, but there are a LOT of ways a smart, strategic coach/ athletic department/ college/ athlete can punch above their weight in this new world! Embrace the challenge!
Here’s the truth about NIL that I’ve been observing for the last few years. Some schools have always had advantages in college sports, whether it’s state-of-the-art facilities, massive donor support, or packed 100,000+ seat stadiums every weekend. NIL is no different. An even playing field in college athletics has never existed - and it probably never will. University presidents either buy into athletics or don’t. Donors either fund budgets or don’t. Fanbases either show up or don’t. So what’s the key for every program in this new world of NIL? Finding their niche. A clear vision for how to win in this evolving landscape is critical. Without it, the road ahead is going to be rocky - for teams, fanbases, and athletic departments. The next few years will separate the programs that thrive from those that get left behind. Vision and leadership will make all the difference.

Yes. The Washington Generals have been more successful at beating the Harlem Globetrotters than the NCAA legal team has been in court lately. But the whole OMG, Panic, Panic, NCAA schools will stop recruiting freshman thing... NO. Just stop it!! FBS (Bowl School) football has about 100 student-athletes who are now eligible for this waiver out of almost 20,000 student-athletes. Two weeks ago, the same people were saying the transfer portal was killing junior college sports, now they're saying the opposite. The reality is that junior college sports gets a lot of student-athletes coming in, and few go on to compete in NCAA Division 1 (the percentage is lower than for high school kids). THAT reality isn't going to change, although the strategy and opportunities may have just expanded for a few students! We can help them navigate this, but it is not at all a time to panic - it's a chance to evaluate your opportunities! https://lnkd.in/gbmbR6Gb
Pavia Panic? Don't.

Well, that was fast. The NCAA has filed an appeal in the Pavia case (where a judge granted a restraining order allowing Vandy QB Diego Pavia an extra year of eligibility because he played in the NJCAA and NOT the NCAA for two years), BUT the NCAA Division 1 Board of Governors is granting a waiver to all student-athletes who use their final season of eligibility allowing them to play again in 2025-26 if they haven't had 4 seasons of NCAA competition. So, if you played in junior college or the NAIA...

#IECA member Dave Morris (College Athletic Advisor) weighs in on the predatory world of post-graduate football in this USA TODAY investigative piece. "Many high schools lack the resources to help prospective athletes navigate the recruiting process...That information vacuum creates a feeding ground for owners of post-grad programs."
