We've only been open a few weeks, and inspiring work is already happening in our building. Thank you Alicia Belton, FAIA, NOMA and Janice Downing for your dedication to building up the community.

Gratitude to the McKnight Foundation for their dedication to supporting the restoration of The Historic Coliseum and our co-owners dream to rise from the ashes to make a better tomorrow for Longfellow and beyond. Built in 1917, The Historic Coliseum Building on Lake Street has long served as a beacon for local businesses and BIPOC entrepreneurs. After a four-year redevelopment project, the 80,000 square-foot building is reopening its doors on June 19th, 2024 as a part of the @SoulofSouthsideFestival. The project has been led by Redesign, Inc. in partnership with two local Black-owned and three women-owned small business partners: Alicia Belton of Urban Design Perspectives, Janice Downing of Common Sense Consulting, and Shanelle Evens Montana of Lagniappe and the Du Nord Cocktail Room - all tenants and long-term owners in The Historic Coliseum Building. The Historic Coliseum Building will offer the Twin Cities a variety of new neighborhood resources in the heart of Longfellow: ?? event center - from its ballroom days to the present, the building has had a venue available for people to come together and celebrate.? ?? coworking space - whether someone is visiting for the day or looking for that communal office feel, they can choose from a variety of state-of-the-art desk layouts to get work done from, independently or as a team. ?? space for lease - there are over thirty retail and office tenant opportunities with a heavy focus on Black, Indigenous, People of Color or BIPOC entrepreneurs and professionals. ?? restaurant and bar - Shanelle Evens Montana (co-founder of Du Nord Social Spirits) is opening Lagniappe, a funky, cool restaurant serving New Orleans cuisine; and Du Nord Cocktail Room, a full service-bar where everyone is invited and everyone belongs.
