To help people - that's the number one reason firefighters give me when I ask why they chose the fire service. It's a dynamic career that allows you to spend time outside, learn new and evolving skills, and connect with the people you serve. We have a great program here in Colerain Township called the Recruit Program. It allows people 18+ to switch or start a career that is filled with purpose, and it doesn't cost applicants a dime. Whether you're driven by a passion to help others or seeking a job that’s anything but ordinary, the fire service could be your calling. ?? Questions? Email Captain Vangen! ?? Check out our flyer for all the details. ?? Don’t wait—your future starts here!

Colerain Township was first settled in the spring of 1790 by a surveyor, John Dunlap, who named the settlement after his birthplace of Coleraine, Ireland. The settlement, Fort Coleraine, commonly called Dunlap’s Station, was located on the bend of the great Miami River several miles below the bridge to Ross, Ohio. Only one year after it had been settled, Dunlap’s Station was temporarily abandoned following a brutal attack it sustained by Native Americans. John Dunlap and the 11 families living at the Fort moved down river to the settlement at North Bend. In 1794, Coleraine was established as a Township. The “e” at the end of Coleraine was dropped sometime later, Americanizing the name Colerain. The villages of Barnesburg, Bevis, Dunlap and Groesbeck were established in the early 1800′s along Blue Rock and Colerain Roads, two of the oldest roads in the area. German immigrants farmed the southwestern portion between 1840 and 1870, heavily influencing the township’s cultural and architectural traditions. Today, Colerain Township is the 2nd largest township in the state of Ohio encompassing 42.9 square miles while serving 58,499 residents. Colerain Township is located north of Cincinnati and is conveniently located off of two major interstates providing easy access to our residential and business communities. Residents and businesses of Colerain Township receive the benefit of a full-service township providing a variety of services including Administration, Police, Fire & EMS, Planning & Zoning, Parks & Services, Public Works, and Senior & Community Center.

Celebrating wins can be easy to overlook in a busy environment, but it's an important part of public service - acknowledging what we do well. This week, we honored Glenna Carter, our office manager and "chaos coordinator," as she's been dubbed. Glenna is the first face you see when you walk into the Administration Office, and it's always a smiling, friendly face. From planning and zoning to park shelter rentals and general Township questions, Glenna has an answer or knows someone who does. The American Society for Public Administration - Greater Cincinnati Chapter selected Glenna to receive their award for outstanding Support Services, and we couldn't be more proud! Colerain Township also received an award in 2020 - that was also celebrated in the same ceremony due to the COVID pandemic - for its Traffic Calming Lending Library. This program was founded by former administrator Geoff Milz, AICP LEED-AP. The Library allowed for quick, inexpensive experiments and temporary interventions to see what works in a particular place without a major commitment of funds and time. The Library currently lives at The Center for Local Government and allows communities to calm their streets in a lighter, cheaper, faster, way. Thank you to the ASPA for highlighting our achievements and allowing us to celebrate our wins!

We are so thankful and humbled by this recognition! Today, Hamilton County EMA recognized Colerain Township as the most Resilient Community in Hamilton County. We take emergency response and preparation for emergencies seriously, as evidenced by: -Our aid/assistance with the styrene leak; -Our all hazards response to Hurricane Helene, including debris removal, damage assessments, and other activities; -Our active shooter training with NWLSD; -Our response to each and every fire in the community and use of ICS during response; -Our ability to clear the roads of snow and ice on a moment’s notice; -ALICE training provided by our team throughout the community; -Our representation on various local, state, and national response task forces; -And our employees' commitment to being ready to respond on a moment’s notice to any issue in the Township. While we were recognized today for prioritizing resident safety, we will not sit on our heels. We will continue to train, plan and prepare for any and all emergency situations. After all, "The best preparation for good work tomorrow is to do good work today." - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

"Practice is the hardest part of learning, and training is the essence of transformation." - Ann Voskamp Every chance our Fire Department gets, we're training. Last week, we had more than 125 firefighters from all across the region join us to learn state-of-the-art skills like one-person ladder set-ups, how to effectively cut through metal doors, door breaches, firefighter leadership and water behavior to name a few. THANK YOU for transforming the industry, pushing your limits and expanding your skills with us! #motivation #training #fire #firefighter #thankyou

We had two great back-to-school events this week! First our firefighters and police officers welcomed back elementary school kids with high-fives on the first day of school. Being celebrated like this not only give the kids a boost of confidence that could be seen in their faces, but it also started creating positive bonds with our first responders (who also loved this event!). Our other event was sending school safety officers back to school. Like any proud mom, we had to give them a blackboard marking their milestones. Opening up and listing things like their favorite school subject or favorite snack also makes these officers more humanized to the community. So very proud to have these positive community encounters!

We love seeing local businesses grow in Colerain Township! #community #local #coffee #ColerainCares
WE ARE UNDERWAY! It has taken time to plan, coordinate, and get the proper permitting, but now renovations have begun on the first Just Love Coffee in the state of Ohio! Soon, you will be able to enjoy coffee and community at Just Love Coffee! Thank you Colerain Township, Jeff Weckbach, David Miller, as well as the Colerain Chamber of Commerce and Dave Moravec for their help in making this possible!

Usually if you interact with a police officer, it's on one of the worst days of your life: you've been in a car crash, a neighbor kid went missing, or an incident happened while shopping ... But on Aug. 6, our officers will have the opportunity to meet community members they serve in a low-stress, family-friendly environment. We had the pleasure of being on WCPO 9 News's Cincy Lifestyle show to talk with Pete Scalia about National Night Out coming up next week. Officer Thomas and Lt. Penley were great ambassadors for the Township and the Police Department when talking about this event. Hope to see you out there on Aug. 6, Colerain!

We are so grateful to have good working connections between our schools, various departments and other community partners in order to make critical trainings like these possible!
Training. There are a lot of terrible things that may happen in your community and it is important to be prepared for them. This past Friday, our Police, Fire, and School District all came together for several joint exercises to test our response to a large scale disaster. It was exceptional to watch our teams go through their response protocols and to build our rapport with our local schools. Below are a few images from the day long training. Probably my favorites are the moments captured where our Fire Chief and Police Chief are coaching their teams through their tactical response. #Fire #EMS #Police #Schools #Training #LocalGov

Colerain Township loves being able to support our veterans and our Chamber by attending this event and lending our staff to help with photography. It was a beautiful evening, and we are so proud of our veterans!
Colerain Chamber of Commerce 2024 Hometown Hero Event was a night to remember! We celebrated the Chamber’s 10th anniversary with a very special Hometown Hero event. This year, we partnered with local senior living facilities and community members to honor our local veteran heroes, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten. We recognized the bravery and service of many outstanding individuals, including three World War II veterans, two Purple Heart recipients, two remarkable women, and several other courageous soldiers. Their stories and sacrifices remind us of the freedoms we enjoy today. The event, held at the beautiful Willow Event Center, and it was a night of celebration, filled with networking, reconnecting with old friends, and creating new memories. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the support from everyone made the evening truly special. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who supported this event! Emery Federal Credit Union, Everest Financial, Inc. and Rumpke Waste & Recycling were our generous Event Sponsors! Cincinnatus Savings and Loan was our bar sponsor and Duke Energy Corporation was our Silver Level sponsor. Thank you Herrmann Services, Rock Solid Construction for your support sponsorship. Thank you to our many generous donors to our silent auction, especially Geraci Fine Jewelry! And a thank you to COPFCU whose employees graciously volunteered throughout the event! ?? Here's to our heroes, to our community, and to many more years of celebrating together. Thank you for making this night unforgettable.
