On National Wear Red Day (Feb. 7), we honor the fight against heart disease, a leading cause of death in the U.S. Many forms of heart disease can be prevented with awareness and lifestyle changes, but the symptoms are often misunderstood. Here's a look at some symptoms to watch for — and some that might surprise you: ??Chest Pain or Discomfort — Often felt as pressure or tightness, this is the most recognized symptom. ??Shortness of Breath — Especially during rest or mild activity, shortness of breath can be an early sign. ??Fatigue and Weakness — Unexplained tiredness, even without exertion, could signal that the heart isn't pumping effectively. ??Swelling — Swelling in the legs, ankles, or abdomen may indicate heart valve or muscle issues. ??Lightheadedness or Dizziness — Feeling dizzy or faint could be a sign of irregular heartbeats or other heart conditions. ??Pain in the Neck, Jaw, or Back — These less-obvious pains are especially common in women experiencing a heart attack. We hope this is a helpful reminder of heart disease symptoms. Feel free to share it with your network.
