关于我们
At COLAS, we are raising the standard for quality construction with a focus on sustainability, equity, and access to opportunity; we build to inspire community. We prioritize people over profits, and we're proud to be a leader in the construction industry for commercial real estate. Our story began in 1997 in Portland, a city we are proud to call home and build for, reshaping the landscape to serve the community. As an American general contracting firm founded by Hermann Colas, Jr., a scholar and U.S. Veteran with proud Haitian roots, we remain true to our values. We build with excellence, sustainability, and the future in mind while dedicating resources to lift others as we climb. Our dedication to the construction industry was not inspired by winning awards, however, COLAS is honored to be among Oregon's Most Admired Companies for four consecutive years (2018-2021). Colas Construction is the only construction firm to win top honors in safety with the Outstanding Rose and the Grand Rose Awards in two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021. In addition, COLAS is the proud recipient of the ROSE Safety Award and the PRIDE Safety Award over multiple years. We are proud to have achieved the highest level of recognition for safety and value being a leader in the commercial construction industry. Thank you,?Williams & Russell CDC! We are proud to share in the journey of this beautiful addition to the community. Learn more about this new landmark: https://lnkd.in/gDGAkpGz Adre LEVER Architecture Hood Design Studio #buildingtomorrowtoday
Homeownership is a significant key to generational wealth. Creating opportunities for Black Portlanders to own, not just rent, is central to our project mission. Check out the latest renderings for the 20 Townhomes designed to provide access to homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families and individuals. The Williams and Russell land previously housed 171 families, 74% of who were Black, and lost millions of dollars in equity due to displacement caused by racist urban renewal practices between 1971 and 1973. Together, we’re working to break down barriers to homeownership and create vibrant, sustainable communities. Stay tuned for updates as we move forward! Incredibly proud that the COLAS Team will serve as the GC for the inaugural project of the OMSI District! With an outstanding partnership, this first housing project will serve and deliver a new, affordable home to many in need- one that is safe, centrally located, and part of a thriving new district for the City of Portland. Appreciations to Dr. Ernesto Fonseca, PhD for his words below, and to our project partners, OMSI, Edlen & Company, Hacienda Community Development Corp. OMSI Project coming up! -A few years ago, Erin Graham shared her extraordinary vision for the OMSI District with me, a bold and transformative idea that I was thrilled to join. Fast forward to today, and alongside Jill Sherman from Edlen & Company, Hacienda, and myself, we’ve taken the first monumental steps toward bringing this vision to life with the first gateway project doing housing. Through an intense and thoughtful selection process, we’ve welcomed Holst, COLAS Construction, and PLACE Studio to the team, each bringing unmatched expertise and passion to this groundbreaking endeavor. Stay tuned for exciting updates as we continue to work tirelessly on what will soon be a defining and transformative project for SE Portland! None of this had been possible without my amazing team, Rachel Naujock, Garrett Runck, Kevin Chavez, Juan J. Ortiz and Leticia Cervantes. And no doubt, the vision of Erin Graham, OMSI, Jill Sherman, Edlan & Co and the wonderful team of Holst, PLACE Studio and Colas Construction, including their amazing leaders, Andrew Colas, Mauricio Villarreal, Zeljka Carol Kekez, JP Paul, Dave Otte, Brittany Drapac Shreiner, AIA, LEED GA, Miguel Camacho-Serna, Gauri Vengurlekar, Alexander Colas, Adam Khawaja, and Marc-Daniel Domond make this vision a reality. Special thanks to my board chair, the one who hired me and continues to by my ally no matter how rough the times get. Angela Martin. Muchas Gracias! Hacienda Community Development Corp. Our team takes pride in community AND service. Congratulations, Alexander Colas, on your appointment as the NAACP Chair of the Freedom Fund and Membership Drive, and for hosting an outstanding event! #buildingtomorrowtoday
This year, I had the profound honor of serving as the Chair of the Freedom Fund for the NAACP Portland Branch. What an unforgettable evening we had—our Membership Drive filled the room with over 730 passionate, dedicated members of our community. Words can’t fully capture the pride I feel in being surrounded by a team that not only cares but shows up, acts, and continues to build on the rich legacy of our Portland branch, a legacy that has stood strong since 1914. This event was a true labor of love, and I am in awe of what we achieved—especially knowing that a 100% volunteer board made this happen. The love, energy, and unity in the room were palpable. Our keynote speaker, Tennessee State Representative Justin Pearson, delivered a message that moved us all. We launched a scholarship fund in honor of the late Mr. Howard Williamson and celebrated several key members of our Portland community for their unwavering legacy of service. If you couldn’t join us, it’s not too late! You can still donate to the scholarship fund and become a member. Let’s keep building this momentum—together, we are shaping the future, and I can’t wait to see you at the next one! Proud to see the Williams & Russell Project achieve international acclaim by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). Follow the Williams & Russell CDC and celebrate with us- a step forward on a healing path by and for the Black community to serve generations. www.williamsrussellcdc.org #buildingtomorrowtoday
Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives, Inc. is excited to announce that we will be featured at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) International Conference, held from September 23rd to 27th in London and Paris. The Williams & Russell Project The Williams & Russell Project aims to empower and honor Portland’s Black community by providing affordable housing, homeownership opportunities, and business support in a 1.7-acre block. This now vacant block at North Russell Street and North Williams Avenue which is currently owned by Legacy Health, was once the thriving Albina community that housed the majority of African Americans in Oregon before being acquired through eminent domain for urban renewal in the early 1970s. Through a community-driven process led by Black leaders, the land is returning to the community. The project will incorporate affordable rental apartments and home ownership, culturally-specific amenities and preferences, while also fostering economic development through a Black Business Hub offering support services, especially to those whose families were impacted by the displacement. Through these the program aims to further support creating wealth and promoting a healthier economy. A word from the top ??? #buildingtomorrowtoday #excellence #weloveconstruction
?? Exciting Day! ?? Today, we took teamwork to new heights—literally! ?? Climbing to the top of our tower crane was an unforgettable experience, made even more special by sharing it with my sister, Aneshka Colas-Dickson, and brother Alexander Colas. Even more remarkable was to have my nephew Eric Dickson with us. Being up there, we enjoyed breathtaking views, strengthened our bond, and created lasting memories. Moments like these remind us of the importance of collaboration and support, both professionally and personally. A big thank you to everyone who made this day possible! Let’s keep reaching for new heights together! ??? Shoutout to the visionaries at Albina Vision for creating this incredible project. Rukaiyah Adams, Winta Yohannes, JT Flowers... A new beginning for the Strong Family Property is underway! The COLAS Team remains ever so proud to serve as the GC for this Alberta Alive project with Self Enhancement, Inc., Community Development Partners, and Holst! #buildingtomorrowtoday
We're thrilled to announce the closing of the latest Alberta Alive project! The Strong Property site is the third phase of the Alberta Alive vision, a partnership between Self Enhancement, Inc. and Community Development Partners with the shared goal of providing accessible, affordable housing to low-income African American families in North/Northeast Portland. Alberta Alive is dedicated to celebrating and strengthening Portland's historically Black N/NE neighborhoods, which have suffered the harmful impacts of urban renewal. Located at the prominent intersection of N Alberta and N Williams Avenue, the development will provide 75 brand-new apartments, all of which will adhere to the City’s N/NE Preference Policy, ensuring equitable access to housing opportunities. The project was designed by Holst Architecture and is being built by Colas Construction Co. A big thank you to all of our partners for making this vision a reality. We can't wait to see this new community come to life!

The COLAS Team is proud to have contributed- the heart center of the community beautifully bringing people together. Fantastic to see and celebrate! RKm Development YBA Architects #buildingtomorrowtoday
Downtown Rockwood is complete! The community’s guiding vision: ‘create an economic engine that breaks the generational cycle of poverty and builds family and community prosperity.’ The engine is now fully assembled, fueled and running. Go have a listen and help rev it up! Full circle—9 years ago, after winning the RFP with developer RKm (Roy Kim, Channa Kim, Elaina Kim) our team joined a years-long intensive community engagement process instigated by the Gresham Redevelopment Commission and leaders like Josh Fuhrer and Emily Bower. One of our first events was a series of activity booths at the Rock the Block! Community Festival in 2016, held on what was then the remains of the parking lot for the demolished former Fred Meyer store that once rested on this 5.5 acre site at the geographic heart of the Rockwood neighborhood in Gresham. Last weekend, Rock the Block! took place for the first time in the fully completed public plaza designed as a living room and gathering place for Oregon’s youngest and most diverse community. Congrats to the YBA Architects staff, the staff and leadership at the City of Gresham, Gresham Redevelopment Commission, RKm Development, landscape architect Robert Foster, Colas Construction , CENTRAL BETHANY CONSTRUCTION, LLC , LMC Construction , TM Rippey Consulting Engineers , Emerio Design , MKE Engineering, POIC, MESO, the multitude of other professionals and partners who made this possible, and all the community liaisons, groups, committees and volunteers who pulled together, developed a coherent vision and stayed the course. It’s been an honor to play a role and a pleasure to build so many lasting relationships and connections within the Rockwood community. The buildings and plaza are but flexible vessels for the beating heart of this community—it’s people—to write, weave together and share their stories. Go have a listen and use this place to weave your own story into a greater fabric of community. https://lnkd.in/gwP5RCxV https://lnkd.in/gcK-cARf
