?? How do you know if you’re in the right workplace? ? We thrive when we chose a workplace and team that align with our core values.? ? SHRM?research?indicates that 72% of employees consider workplace culture a major factor in job decisions, and misalignment with company values is a top reason for turnover. (Source: https://lnkd.in/etTwAC4h) LinkedIn?research?shows that 7 in 10 people would leave a job because of bad management, and often times, bad management is rooted in a lack of alignment in core values. (Source: https://lnkd.in/eTyMZPVS) ? So, how do we clarify our values—or explore those of a potential employer?? ? ??Take time to reflect on your core values and assess how you have recently applied those values in your decision-making and actions. The?Values in Action Inventory?is a great tool to leverage ???? https://lnkd.in/ga5F7_f.? ? ??Do a culture check.?Go beyond the company website—talk to multiple people that work at the organization. Ask about their experience, the team vibe, and if leadership truly walks the talk. Check social channels to see if values are aligned with the content being promoted. ? ??Ask intentional questions:?How does leadership support employees? How does the team handle feedback and growth? Are workers at all levels valued and recognized for their contributions? ? ??Observe alignment in action. A company’s culture isn’t just in its words—it’s in how they treat employees (and prospective employees), make decisions, communicate with transparency, and co-create across functions and levels. ? The right fit isn’t just about the job—it’s also about alignment with your beliefs and values. ? Check out?We Got This: A Pocket Guide to Thriving in Our Careers & Life?by our CEO Daniel Horgan. ?? Consider this...if you want to get by, focus on connecting with others like you. If you want to get ahead, be intentional in building and managing relationships with those that are different from you. Robert Putman, author of Bowling Alone, spotlights that we all can benefit from both bonding and bridging relationships at work, on campus, and in community. We often naturally bond with those that have high levels of similarities in demographics, lived experiences, and attitudes. When we bridge connections across groups, we expose ourselves to new ideas, perspectives, cultures, and opportunities -- especially when we amp up our curiosity. To strengthen your bridge building connectons, consider the following: ? Explore new neighborhoods, cultural events, museums, documentaries, restaurants, and local shops. Intentionally seek out new experiences and perspectives different from your own. ? Participate in employee resource groups, network across sectors and social groups, and set up chats with individuals in complimentary career pathways and industries. Break down silos between groups by intentionally educating yourself plus modeling and advocating for deeper collaboration across groups. ? Volunteer in projects that deepen your understanding of social issues in your community while bridging your connections with those that have different lived experiences to you. Be intentional. Be curious. Be a bridge builder. Share below ?? additional ways we can build bridges and connections with each other. #inclusion #professionaldevelopment #mentorship #coaching #leadership #community #change #growthmindset #culture #belonging #networking

?? We kicked off a new HR Career Mentoring cohort with SHRM & the SHRM Foundation this month. This 1:1 mentoring program connects students and emerging HR professionals with career mentors to expand networks, strengthen skills, and engage in career planning. During orientation, our CEO Daniel Horgan reminded the mentors and mentees that we don't need to have all the answers. We do have to be committed to meeting each other where we are and being intentional in our actions — showing up, being fully present, practicing curiosity, challenging assumptions, and exploring options (vs. telling someone what to do). When we show someone that we genuinely care about them, we cut through the noise and focus on how we make someone feel in our presence. That is what unlocks growth ?? Tag someone in the comments ?? that has made you feel seen, heard, and valued. Share what you value about your relationship with them. #mentorship #coaching #CareerDevelopment #culture #HR #HRCommunity #SHRM #CoLabL #DanielHorgan?

?? What does it take to inspire teams and lead with purpose? Daniel unlocked the answers while facilitating a relationship-centered leadership coaching session with KFC leaders, leaving them with actionable strategies to elevate their game: ?? Self-awareness is foundational to connecting with others. ?? Curiosity deepens connections, helps us avoid making assumptions, and assists us in gathering context. ?? Clarifying goals and expectations sets teams up for success along with co-creating action and contingency plans. ?? Change is inevitable - how we choose to respond to change and support others in navigating it matters. ?? Culture is something we all build together - as leaders, we must co-create a culture of possibility. Brittany Gilbert of the KFC Foundation shared, "We could not be more thrilled with that being one of the best coaching sessions we have ever sat through. The level of engagement on this call...the number of attendees and the active participation on both video and chat… just absolutely in awe of today’s session." Do any of these leadership tactics resonate with you? If so, let us know how you've applied it to your team or culture. #Mentoring #Leadership #Management #Culture #Inclusion #Belonging #CoLabL #EmployeeRelations #ProfessionalDevelopment

?? CoLabL is celebrating its new partnership with the Chime Scholars Foundation. In just a short time, we've already hosted two workshops for Scholars, led by our very own Daniel Horgan, focused on career preparation and planning. ? As a result, 100% of survey participants rated their experience either 4 or 5 stars out of 5. ?? What we love to see even more is feedback on what participants found most valuable. One participant shared, "Real life resources that I can use on a day-to-day basis." When we can equip participants with a mindset and tools that they can leverage right away, they get to the change that they want faster and with more focus. That is one of our differentiators in the experiences we design and facilitate at CoLabL. #scholarships #CSR #philanthropy #EarlyCareers #ProfessionalDevelopment #growth #change #CoLabL #WeGotThis
