Coforma’s newest Software Engineer, Jane(Wan Yun) Cho, was a pediatric occupational therapist before transitioning into tech. “As a healthcare provider, seeing a lack of helpful technology in our healthcare systems inspired me to switch fields and contribute solutions from the other side,” she shares. Jane was drawn to Coforma’s portfolio of work and our human-centered approach to improving healthcare access and health equity. “The projects Coforma takes on are very exciting to me,” she says. “We’re working on products and services that touch a lot of people's lives—oftentimes, the people that need them the most. I want to be a part of this mission and contribute my energy and time to make a positive impact.” When she’s not crafting code, Jane enjoys actual crafting, including macrame, crochet, and knitting. You can catch her at her home base in New York doing yoga and aerial hammock, dancing, listening to her favorite podcasts, hiking, paddle boarding, cooking, and baking. Welcome to the team, Jane! #CoformaCareers #EngineeringJobs #RemoteWork #CivicTech

The FedScoop 50 Awards recognize government leaders leaning into innovative technology to drive efficiency and increase efficacy across federal programs and services. Their Innovation of the Year category highlights one outstanding government initiative that exemplifies major progress in the digital transformation of public service technology. We are honored to share that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Direct File Project was voted this year’s winner. Team Coforma played a pivotal role in developing and launching the Direct File pilot program this tax season, enabling over 140,000 taxpayers to submit their returns using a free, easy-to-use e-filing service. Our collaborative efforts to improve the American taxpayer experience and make tax filing more accessible were a major success, and we’re humbled to have been a part of this pioneering effort. Read more about it in the FedScoop article linked in the comments. Coforma is excited to continue our work with the IRS to scale this groundbreaking service, ensuring even more taxpayers benefit from using it in 2025 and beyond. #DirectFile #IRS #Leadership #GovCon #DigitalServices
Congratulations to the Internal Revenue Service' Direct File Program for winning the 2024 #FedScoop50 Innovation of the Year Award! With support from the Inflation Reduction Act and a dedicated team, Direct File launched as a free, electronic filing option for taxpayers in 12 states, providing a cost-free alternative to traditional filing services. The pilot’s success has paved the way for a nationwide expansion, making tax filing easier and more accessible for all. ?? Learn more about the Direct File Program: https://lnkd.in/dN54CsUp

Being a remote-first company has allowed us to assemble a highly talented team informed by diverse backgrounds and perspectives. It helps mitigate outage risks for our partners and means we can Zoom in to meet stakeholders wherever they are. Employees seem to like it, too! According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, Americans save an average of 55 minutes per day when they don’t have to commute to work. Other research has found that working from home can translate into savings of up to $12,000 each year on things like gas, office clothes, and lunch. Ninety percent of surveyed professionals also agreed that remote work was good for their physical and mental health. That’s why we’re very excited to announce that Coforma is expanding our remote-hiring capacity to include employees whose primary residence is in South Carolina! This brings the total number of states we hire from up to 22. “With our continued growth, we’re thrilled to add South Carolina as another state we can support hiring new employees in,” says Senior Talent Acquisition Manager, Thomas J. Castro. “This will allow us to engage and work with new talent and we’re looking forward to adding more states in the new year.” To learn more about Coforma’s full range of benefits—including unlimited PTO, paid parental leave, and annual professional development stipends—and to view open roles, visit our Careers page: https://coforma.io/careers. #CoformaCareers #RemoteWork #RemoteFirst #DigitalServices #CivicTech

While some of the work we do with our clients and the communities they serve makes national headlines, the majority of our projects involve behind-the-scenes toiling, out of the spotlight. Both types are essential to driving the slow, steady drumbeat of change. Drawing on illustrative examples, research, and employee perspectives, our latest article explores the power of incremental progress and the journey to find meaning in our roles in civic tech. You can read “Scrubbing Rocks: The Social Impact of Incremental Progress in Civic Tech” through the link in the comments. We’re pleased to share this article from Coforma’s recently launched website blog. Named “Perspectives,” it contains insights from subject-matter experts from our team and contributing guest authors, along with company news and information. Sharing experiences is fundamental to fostering human connection. We take a plain language approach to crafting stories that matter to our government partners, values-aligned organizations, civic tech professionals, and anyone interested in learning more about how we craft creative, inclusive solutions and technology products. We invite you to visit the blog, read our newest article, and visit regularly. #Technology #Design #HCD #CivicTech #VeteranServices #Healthcare #PublicInterest

Coforma CEO Eduardo F. O. recently joined podcast host Alexa Tsui on #GovCom Unfiltered to discuss leadership, partnerships, and business development in civic tech. When asked about his thoughts on BD capture, Eduardo took the opportunity to reframe the conversation. “The act of capturing is bringing something in and basically holding it, fully controlling it,” he shares. “The way that I look at developing relationships or opportunities and working with my team—it’s more of a collaborative effort.” This spirit of collaboration extends to our clients and teaming partnerships. “Even though most of our work is prime work, we do very little by ourselves,” Eduardo reflects. “On almost every single engagement, we bring other organizations with us, whether it is because they have unique capabilities that will enable us to achieve specific outcomes, because they have just started in the space or . . . because [we] believe in what they are doing and want to give them the opportunity to grow. [Being good partners] is about creating the ecosystem that enables us to all show up to do our best.” We’ve embedded that commitment to collaboration in our company’s name. “Coforma is the joining of two Latin roots,” he shares. “‘Co,’ meaning with, and ‘forma,’ meaning shape. It’s giving shape to things together. That’s how I look at business development, especially when it comes to not using aggressive phrases like ‘capture,’ but also in terms of the role of a small-business CEO, which is highly collaborative.” Listen to the full episode (linked in the comments) to hear more of Eduardo’s thoughts on building strong, lasting partnerships and delivering impactful digital services. #Leadership #GovCon #DigitalServices #Culture

Coforma has been awarded a contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to continue our work developing a case management platform for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in support of its Unaccompanied Children (UC) Bureau. ORR provides for the care of all referred unaccompanied children—those under the age of 18 with no lawful immigration status in the US and no parent or legal guardian in the US—until they are appropriately and safely released to a thoroughly vetted sponsor. Over the last several years, the number of children in need of care has increased significantly, with 118,900 unaccompanied children referred to ORR in 2023. We’ve been honored to spend the last year working with our subcontracting partner Raft to design and develop the Post-Release Services (PRS) application, which focuses on the journey of an unaccompanied child once they are released from ORR care. This interactive, web-based application is mobile-friendly and enables both ORR staff and PRS providers to perform case management actions with greater confidence, ease, and efficiency. Under the one-year ORR Process and Technology Modernization (OPTM) contract, Team Coforma—joined by Friends From The City ("Friends")—will continue developing, testing, and improving the PRS application, collaboratively prioritizing new features to streamline data management, support case managers, and ultimately contribute to the well-being of unaccompanied children. Coforma’s expanding Public Interest focus area encompasses a wide range of projects that each aim to improve people’s lives through equitable, inclusive solutions. Here’s to making things that matter! #UnaccompaniedChildren #DigitalServices #GovernmentServices #CivicTech #TechForGood

Veterans deserve digital experiences that allow them to seamlessly apply for and receive benefits. We’re pleased to share that Coforma has been awarded a contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support the digital transformation of VA’s Pension and Burials Program. This continues our well-established work within the VA.gov product suite for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). VA’s pension program provides supplemental income for older, disabled, and low-income Veterans who served during wartime. The burial allowance benefit provides financial support for families of Veterans whose death was related to their service or other qualifying situations. Team Coforma will help VA streamline the digital experience for Veterans and their survivors so they can apply for these benefits online with minimal frustration—using assistive technology, if needed—and receive distributions quickly.?? Over the next year, our team will work with subcontracting partner Ad Hoc LLC to enhance applicants’ experiences and ensure claims are accurate and minimally burdensome for claim adjudicators. We will conduct human-centered research, design digital experiences, create content, execute front- and back-end implementation, perform testing, support security requirements, and prioritize accessibility throughout the project. Team Coforma is honored to support VA in its mission to improve the lives of Veterans and their families. Let’s get to work! #VeteranServices #Veterans #CivicTech #DigitalServices #GovernmentServices

Which business processes and priorities will the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) embrace in 2025? How will they respond to emerging technologies, acquisition trends, budget priorities, and policy changes? What initiatives will the agency focus on in the coming year?? ? Looking Ahead at CMS for 2025 is an in-person event that brings together business and technology leaders, subject matter experts, and stakeholders from across the CMS landscape. They’re kicking off the fiscal year by engaging in candid conversations to identify real solutions and opportunities to better support the communities CMS serves. Molly VandeVoort, Coforma’s Senior Principal Health Data SME, will join fellow panelists in a future-focused discussion about the broad issues, technology, and policies that will drive operations at CMS in 2025 and beyond. Being a thoughtful partner to government agencies means engaging in conversations that matter to them to understand their challenges, ideas, and aspirations. This positions us to offer more valuable insights when we’re working together to improve the lives of those they serve. We look forward to listening to, learning from, and connecting with those in attendance on October 10! #Healthcare #HealthEquity #CivicTech #Leadership #Innovation

We’re honored to share that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has named Coforma one of ten awardees for Secure, Performant, Reliable, and User-Centered Experiences (SPRUCE)—a five-year indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract vehicle. Building on our work with VA on nine prime contracts under the current Customer Experience, DevOps, and Agile Releases (CEDAR) IDIQ, SPRUCE will promote rapid delivery, private sector best practices, and measurable outcomes while ensuring the agency can readily adopt commercial technology and design-industry best practices. Its intent is to scale the success accomplished through CEDAR while expanding access to exceptional vendors with diverse skill sets and enabling larger contracts. “One of Coforma’s top priorities is improving services for Veteran communities. It’s an honor to lend our team’s expertise in the many facets of digital services to help VA achieve their vision through SPRUCE. As a Veteran myself, this is a personal commitment to my brothers and sisters-in-arms, and their families, that we are looking out for them and their needs as we support VA,” said Eduardo F. O., CEO of Coforma. Through the SPRUCE IDIQ, Coforma will propose to provide a wide range of agile delivery services, including software development and operations, technical advising and architecture planning, service design and user research studies, data science and data analytics, and product support operations. Congratulations to all of the awardees! We look forward to working alongside you to support VA. #VeteranServices #Veterans #DigitalServices #GovernmentModernization
