Can you imagine a world where women aren't allowed to speak to each other?? It's happening now in Afghanistan. With all the stripping of rights the Taliban has issued (not allowed to go to school, get an education, have a driver's license, sing, go the gym, a park etc.) now women in Afghanistan can't talk SPEAK to each other. I don't know what I'd do without the cherished women in my circles who regularly provide me nourishment, advice, support, laughter, and love. As a woman and a leadership coach dedicated to women's empowerment, I believe in the importance of an empowered voice—yours, mine, and the voices of women and humans everywhere. I also recognize the privilege and responsibility I have as a white American woman to stand in solidarity and amplify the voices of those who may be unheard. I'm committed to using my voice to advocate for #democracy, #freedom, #equity, and #equality. Our collective action matters—how we stand together here in the USA shapes the world. Before leading a team retreat or a 1:1 coaching session, I take a moment to pause, get still, and reflect. It's my way of preparing to show up fully in service to my clients. I ask myself guiding questions and listen deeply for insights to emerge. When I quiet my mind and hold space for stillness, I often receive the clarity needed to elevate the quality of the experience—for both myself and those I work with. This practice is rooted in Conscious Leadership. It’s about becoming aware of what shapes how we show up, how we lead, and how we can see beyond the immediate to serve more effectively. Here are some questions I typically ask: "What unique strengths or perspectives can I bring?" "How can I create a safe and supportive environment?" "What is the core challenge or opportunity this individual/group is facing?" "How can I empower them to find their own solutions?" "What questions might provoke deeper insight?" "What can I now see that might be helpful as I show up in service? By asking yourself questions like these (and others) we can access deeper levels of our own intellligence, which IS Conscious Leadership. Want to know more? Lately, I've been less sure about how things seem — my first impressions, initial interpretations, or the surface of life and work. When I pause and look beyond what’s in front of me, I often realize there's more. Our brains are wired to create meaning, assign value, and shape reality based on our past experiences and biases. While this helps us navigate the world, it can also keep us in a "safety zone" — avoiding anything that might challenge our identity or disrupt the stories we've built. But the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know. And that’s where the growth happens. Take this photo, for example. Depending on how and where you look, you'll see different truths. Each perspective is valid — yet different. This applies to life and leadership. I invite you to ask questions, to look deeper, and to embrace curiosity. It’s okay to not have all the answers. The real value lies in discovery. When we open ourselves to new perspectives, we open ourselves to more possibilities, both in life and in leadership. Have you heard of the term “Transitory Intelligence”? It’s the ability to access our intelligence during times of transition and uncertainty. Typically, when we face transitions or when there's a lot of unknowns, we default to fear, doubt, and contraction. It's a protection mechanism we believe will keep us safe, but in reality, it limits us from exploring true possibilities during times of reinvention. The old is fading, and the new hasn’t fully taken shape yet. I’m sure many of you can relate—life transitions often feel like this. As a society, and within our workplaces, we're experiencing massive transformations. Much of what we’ve relied on is becoming irrelevant and dismantling, leaving us in an uncomfortable grey area. Transitory Intelligence is about cultivating the ability to maintain our integrity through rapid change and the unknown. It’s about sitting with discomfort and looking for what wants to emerge as the new system or structure. Companies are dealing with this now—figuring out hybrid vs. in-office policies, motivating and engaging teams, and navigating how to best serve customers in an ever-evolving tech landscape.
