I genuinely can not believe the widespread attention this project has received! The overwhelming positive response to this restoration proves that there’s a deep and sincere appreciation for our architectural heritage. It’s not just about preserving old buildings; it’s about connecting our past with our present, creating spaces that tell stories and bring communities together. This project reinforces my, Caroline Sleiman and Coffeeangel's commitment to not just serving great coffee, but also to being custodians of the spaces we inhabit. It’s a call to all businesses: look around, see the potential in the old, forgotten, perhaps hidden, and dare to imagine how you can contribute to preserving our shared heritage. Hi all. My updates here have been few and far between this year. My excuse, you could say, is that I've been focusing on the 'knitting'. Notwithstanding the very real and well-publicised challenges facing the Irish hospitality industry, Caroline Sleiman and myself, are extremely proud that our efforts - and that of our wonderful team - have helped make 2024 a positive one for Coffeeangel. And we're very excited as we head into 2025 👏 I will try to put together a more comprehensive post covering some of the hurdles and highlights of that last 12 months. But one of the main joys of this year was the opening our our shop on Mount Street Lower. What started out as a simple coffee shop refit, turned into a much more complicated (and expensive 🫣) restoration project. And while we didn't undertake this project looking for praise or accolades, it really is a lovely feeling when that work is recognised. ✨ Exciting News! ✨ . We’re thrilled to announce that Coffeeangel is expanding to a stunning new location just steps from Merrion Square on Dublin’s Mount Street Lower! 🏛️ . Originally built in 1830, this Victorian redbrick building had seen better days, but Caroline Sleiman and I fell in love with its charm and potential. During our restoration, we uncovered fascinating history: the building was once J. O’Grady & Co., a boot and drapery warehouse in the early 1900s. It even sustained damage during the Battle of Mount Street Bridge in the 1916 Easter Rising. . One of our most exciting discoveries was the original hand-carved, gold leaf mahogany sign of J. O’Grady & Co., beautifully preserved beneath layers of facade. We’re restoring this treasure to its former glory and keeping it in place as a nod to the building’s rich history. . Our team has worked tirelessly to repair and restore the Victorian shopfront, using local joiners who specialise in historical conservation. Inside, we’re transforming the space into a gorgeous new Coffeeangel shop, blending modern comfort with historical relevance. . We’re just weeks away from opening Coffeeangel MSL (Mount Street Lower), and we can’t wait to welcome you to this beautiful and iconic location.
