Putting feminist perspectives at the forefront of global efforts to end violence against women and girls.

关于我们

The Coalition of Feminists for Social Change (COFEM) is an advocacy collective of thought leaders, activists, practitioners and academics working globally to end violence against women and girls (VAWG—also referred to as gender-based violence, or ‘GBV’). COFEM’s key strength lies in the collective expertise and experience of our members, who have made significant contributions to advancing women’s rights and ending VAWG in humanitarian and development settings across the world. COFEM’s primary objective is to create a safe and supportive space for connection, discussion, problem solving, mutual support and activism to advance feminist, women-centered strategies for promoting the rights of women and girls, and ending violence against women and girls (VAWG). Our community is open to and inclusive of everyone who prioritises and advocates for feminist, women-centred thinking and practice in work to address VAWG. We are also committed to working as allies and in solidarity with those working to challenge other forms of oppression and structural discrimination. If you would like to join the COFEM community or learn more about our activities and ways to get involved, please write to us at [email protected] .

#Day3 of Feminist informed approaches towards addressing Violence Against Women and Girls. COFEM's #Tipsheet3, ????????????????????? ????????????-?????????? ????????????????, ???????????? ??????????????????? ?????? ???????????????? ????????????, explores the acceptability and normalisation of harmful everyday sexism in comments, casual conversations and interactions. Often, gender inequality has been so normalised that it goes unrecognised. For example, many will argue that ‘it’s just boys being boys’ or ‘a bit of fun’. These attitudes that justify and excuse sexism and harassment also normalise men’s use of other forms of GBV and contribute to broader patterns of ‘rape culture’ — the global culture that perpetuates sexual violence against, and oppression of, women around the world. At the bottom of the pyramid is sexist/homophobic/transphobic jokes and problematic language + objection the next pillar is traditional roles, glass ceiling rigid gender-based stereotypes next is harrassment threats and verbal abuse, next is rape, sexual assault physical and emotional financial abuse and last is murder

  • Feminist Approaches to Addressing Violence Against Women and Girls, #Tipsheet9, ????????????????: ???????? ???? ???? ?????? ?????? ???? ???? ?????????????? ???? ????????????? When we work to create gender equality and end gender-based violence (GBV), we often face backlash, or push back, from individuals and systems that benefit from the patriarchal status quo. This tipsheet explores the different forms of backlash and shares strategies on how we can address it. Read this tipsheet in English, Arabic, Spanish and French, below ??? https://lnkd.in/dWUnuBFm In the face of rising anti-rights movements and increasing backlash, feminists have been met with heightened aggression, both as individuals and collectives. To provide support and solidarity, we’ve organized a community check-in for all feminists. This will be a free, open space to come together, vent, strategize, and hold space for one another during these challenging times. • Feminist Approaches to Addressing Violence Against Women and Girls, #Tipsheet8, ???????????????????? ????????????: ?????????????????????????? ????? ?????????? ?????? ???????????????? ???? ?????????????????????? ?????????????? ???? ?????????????? ?????????????????? ?????????? ???? ???????????????? Building partnerships in work to address different forms of violence can facilitate greater progress and outcomes across multiple areas, including increasing gender equality. When done carefully, using a feminist frame, coordinating work to address GBV with programmes addressing other forms of violence like violence against children creates opportunities for synergies that can promote holistic, transformational programming and change. Working in silos is not the solution! This tipsheet offers practical tips to practioners, researchers, donors and policy makers on building feminist collaborations. • Day 7 of Feminist Approaches Towards Preventing Violence Against Women, Tipsheet7; ????????????????? ?????????????? ?????? ?????? ???????? In? the past decade, some actors have increasingly used the term ‘GBV’ to include different forms of violence, in particular, men’s experience of sexual violence in conflict and humanitarian settings is being integrated under the ‘GBV’ umbrella. Advocates for this approach have argued that the focus on women and girls in GBV theory and practice ignores the needs of men and boys. Although all violence is a violation of fundamental human rights, categorising violence against men as ‘GBV’ is problematic because it confuses diverse experiences and drivers of violence, makes invisible the central role of gender-based power inequalities in violence experienced by women and girls and disempowers all groups who require support.
