At the recent 2024 AMIA (American Medical Informatics Association) Annual Symposium (#AMIA2024), researchers from Elimu Informatics, in collaboration with Waddah Arafat MD, Bret Heale, PhD, and Srikar Chamala PhD, presented their work: "Molecularly-Guided Cancer Clinical Trial Matching using FHIR and HL7 Clinical Quality Language: A Proof of Concept." This research explored the feasibility of using the FHIR Genomics model and Clinical Quality Language (CQL) to address challenges in automating clinical trial matching for molecular eligibility criteria. The prototype demonstrated that even complex molecular criteria can be encoded using FHIR and CQL, paving the way for scalable, efficient clinical trial matching in precision medicine.? The goal of this work is to complement and enhance the efforts of the GenomeX and CodeX HL7 FHIR Accelerator communities, advancing clinical trial matching to better connect patients to precision cancer care opportunities.? HL7 CodeX: A multi-stakeholder community addressing the need for high-quality, computable data for patient health
关于我们
CodeX is an HL7 FHIR Accelerator. There are many barriers to collecting and sharing valuable cancer data, including the inconsistent use or absence of data standards and the difficulty of transforming how we receive, access, and share patient information in a complex and non-interoperable healthcare system. Every interaction between a clinician and a cancer patient has the potential to provide data that could be used to improve care for that particular patient, as well as for all who follow. Leveraging the mCODE? FHIR Implementation Guide standard (minimal Common Oncology Data Elements), HL7 CodeX will expand around this core to address new use cases and accelerate opportunities to create a learning health system based on interoperable data and improved patient care. HL7 CodeX is a community of patients, providers and health systems, researchers, regulators, payers, electronic health record vendors and information technology innovators, and more working to: (1) Revolutionize cancer patient data collection, sharing, and care (2) Empower electronic health record (EHR) and other systems to share cancer data based on mCODE and extensions in an interoperable way and (3) Streamline data collection and sharing to unburden workflows, while protecting patient privacy.

?? CodeX's inaugural use case, EHR Endpoints for Cancer Clinical Trials, better known as ICAREdata, is coming to a successful close. Starting in 2018, the use case sought to use mCODE (minimal Common Oncology Data Elements) to collect, extract, and transmit key outcome data for clinical research. ICAREdata demonstrated the feasibility of using real-world data in multi-institutional cancer clinical trials. ? ?? Join us at the CodeX Community of Practice, December 13 at 12pm ET to learn about ICAREdata's successes and lessons learned. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gKJrnSr6 ? ?? CodeX continues exploring how real-world data can transform clinical trials in our newest use case, Data-DIRECT. Reach out to learn more! ? #RealWorldData #ClinicalResearch

?? Exciting Developments in Genomic Data Interoperability! ?? ? We had an insightful meeting discussing the progress and future of the GenomeX Data Exchange use case, a community-driven initiative aimed at enhancing interoperability in genomic data to improve patient outcomes. Here are some key highlights: ? ?? Data Exchange Use Case: Focused on developing FHIR standards for genomic data exchange, enabling standardized, computable formats for clinical care and research. ? ?? Use Case Impact: Emphasizing the need for standardized transmission of genomic test results, moving away from static PDFs to dynamic FHIR bundles. ? ?? Collaborative Efforts: Involvement from various sectors, including Tempus AI, Epic, and Myriad Genetics, to refine and implement genomic standards. ? ?? Success Stories: Significant progress in somatic and germline testing standards, with successful Connectathons to enhance community engagement. Additionally, the introduction of prenatal test results in FHIR bundles marks a crucial advancement. ? ?? Future Steps: Upcoming virtual Connectathon in January 2025, focusing on somatic testing and biomarker representation: https://lnkd.in/gMm-PVJb ? We invite you to join us in advancing genomic data standards and participate in our upcoming events. Stay tuned for more updates! ? Anne Quaadgras and I are pleased to announce that Dr. Kenneth Mandl,?will be joining us on Monday, November 18, 2024, 11:30 AM – 1 PM?ET. You can attend in-person and via Zoom. ?? Dr. Mandl is joining us as part of MIT Sloan Health Systems Initiative's Seminar Series in partnership with the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship - “Sparking a Data Revolution in Healthcare via #FHIR - Conversations with Leaders from Government, Industry, Innovators.” Please register for the seminar here https://lnkd.in/eq-iqGDq Ken Mandl?is trained as a pediatrician and pediatric emergency physician. His work at the intersection of population and individual health exerts a sustained influence on the developing field of biomedical informatics. He was a real time bio-surveillance pioneer. Having long advocated for patient participation in producing and accessing data, Mandl was a designer of the first personal health and participatory surveillance systems. Cognizant of electronic health record system limitations, Mandl was a developer of SMART?on FHIR (substitutable apps running universally on health IT) for innovators to reach large markets and patients and doctors to access an “app store for health.” Through his influence on the 21st Century Cures Act, federal regulations require support for SMART interfaces,?ensuring standardized access to individual and population data at system scale, “without special effort.” Dr. Mandl?has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, American Society for Clinical Investigation, Society for Pediatric Research, American College of Medical Informatics and American Pediatric Society. He is a recipient of the he Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the Donald A.B. Lindberg Award?for Innovation in Informatics and the Clifford A. Barger Award?for top mentors at Harvard Medical School. His trainees lead informatics in academia and in the world’s largest technology companies.
