The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless recognizes the critical impact that the intersection of housing and other basic needs such as healthcare, employment, education, and transit has on the ability of people to exit homelessness, stay stably housed, and have a successful and meaningful life. Our latest issue brief discusses several issues that highlight the intersection of housing stability and transportation policies including transportation costs and access, transit-oriented development, and transit safety. https://lnkd.in/gfzDXSJE

In 2019, Colorado passed a bill that created Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) for Medicaid applicants. Colorado, along with six other states and Washington, D.C., are waiting for clarity from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services before implementing these programs. This delay is costing us time that we could be using to enable more Coloradans to participate in our democracy. No more delay: join CCH in the call on the Centers for Medicaid and Medicaid Services to act now to allow our states to begin registering voters at Medicaid. If Colorado begins Automatic Voter Registration at Medicaid, more than 428,000 eligible but unregistered Coloradans would become registered to vote. That's 428,000 more Coloradans receiving their ballot in the mail each election so they can make their voices heard. Add your name to this petition in saying no more delays: the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services must act to advance Automatic Voter Registration at Medicaid. https://lnkd.in/gn4h7v92

During our recent Advocacy Committee meeting, representatives from various departments within the organization gathered to brainstorm a range of potential policies and initiatives that could advance our legislative priorities, focusing on identifying the most impactful and feasible options to champion moving forward.

An article published in Housing Studies, “The importance of stable housing in social capital development and utilisation: How homelessness undermines reciprocity, recognition, and autonomy," reveals how people experiencing homelessness can be deprived of the ability to maintain and utilize social capital in ways that improve their housing security. https://lnkd.in/gvEkJ69k

This week, our Education & Advocacy team were down in Las Animas, Colorado at our Fort Lyon Supportive Residential Community registering residents to vote for National Voter Registration Day. Many residents at Fort Lyon are not from Las Animas and need to update their voter registration to reflect their current address. Do you need to check your voter registration record?
