关于我们
The guiding north star of the Center of Building Innovation is the inter-related issues of social and climate justice in the built environment. To affect change, CoBI will bring together faculty and students from all disciplinary units related to the built environment at Arizona State University into one center to work across all three enterprises. Our professional disciplines in design and planning are changing to meet the demands of our planet and society. The way we finance, plan, design, build, and maintain our built environment is not the same as it was ten, twenty, or thirty years ago. To better prepare our students we must begin to rethink not only what we teach, the means by which we teach and learn, and most importantly, who is at the table.

Amazing morning, and very exciting to be a part of this! The Design School at ASU ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts Philip Horton Marc J Neveu
Busy day welcoming leadership and guests from University of Utah, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and the Desert Research Institute for today’s NSF Engines: Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine (SWSIE) event, then joining ASU’s Science and Technology Policy Research Gathering to talk about my roots in S&T. Great people, conversations and questions to help move innovation forward.

Have you heard about the NSF Engines: Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine (SWSIE)? SWSIE aims to elevate the Southwest as a regional hub of economic development catalyzed by innovations in water, energy, and carbon sustainability and security. The Center of Building Innovation (CoBI) has been asked to help 'stand up' a fourth workstream focused on the built environment, and building integrated solutions. If your organization is interested in joining this effort as a partner -- or if you know of any technologies or practices that could use a 'boost' to help advance their technology readiness level (trl), adoption readiness level (arl), or workforce development efforts -- we would like to meet with you and bring you into the engine. https://swsie.asu.edu/

This past year has been a busy one, and hopefully this is just the beginning. We are gearing up, with our colleagues from An Najah National University (NNU), for year 2 of our Climate Futures Exchange (CFX) -- with continued support from a grant through U.S. Department of State and The Aspen Institute. Our goal -- along with Mutasim Baba, Sameh MONNA, Allam Mousa, Muhannad HAJ HUSSEIN, and Mohammad Alrajhi -- is to grow this initiative in scale, impact, and partnerships, for the long-term sustainability of CFX. This fall our colleagues, and many of their students from NNU, will be visiting us here at Arizona State University -- along with Andie Shafer, Maryam Laly, and colleagues from The Steven's Initiative -- to further advance this work. And, with support from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, and the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University, the Climate | Material | Shelter project led by Elizabeth Golden and Marc J Neveu will be moving forward in the coming year as well. With the support of a broader team, including public officials and friends within the professional community, Golden and Neveu are pursuing public grants funding to complete the design and construction of the Shelter Project for the Iglesia Cristiana el Buen Pastor in Mesa. Thanks again to our colleagues, students, and friends for supporting the efforts of the Center of Building Innovation (CoBI) this year. We look forward to working with you to make the next year busier still.
