?? Mmmmm, fried turkey, butter, and bacon ?? may be yummy, but they can do more harm than adding some pounds. The oils re-solidify and congeal in your pipes causing clogs and backups. They become a solid mass called a "fatburg" that clog sewers. So leading up to the holidays, it's time for our annual reminder that fats, oils and grease can wreak havoc if poured down the drain. 1. NEVER pour fats, oils, and grease down the drain. ?? 2. Scrape leftover food on pans ?? and plates into the trash, not the sink, even if you have a disposal. 3. Pour and scrape oil and grease from pans into a container before washing. Dispose of these materials in the trash. 4. Fryer grease should be cooled, placed in a sealed container, and disposed of in the trash. ** TIP: when you empty an aluminum can or glass jar, save it to hold the oil after cooking. 5. Use sink strainers to catch food, and then empty the strainer contents into the trash. 6. Note: flushing pipes with hot water or dish soap doesn't help. Fact: the majority of sewer system blockages and overflows in Cobb County originate in residential areas because fats, oils, and grease from your kitchen can coat the sewer pipes and restrict water flow. Over time, the FOG builds up and causes blockages and overflows. #FOGCLOGS #cobbcounty

Cobb Elections keeps on working long after election day! The Georgia Secretary of State's office will certify the state's election results this Friday, Nov. 22. To get there, local elections departments must conduct two audits of the results: a risk-limiting audit and a ballot imaging audit. Watch this video to see the work and the time pressure Cobb's workers are under to complete it on time.
