On this day in 1987, the first 911 call was received in Cobb County. After years of preparation, the enhanced emergency phone system was officially launched at 12:01 AM. Led by Mike Dye, the Cobb County Police Department’s 911 Coordinator, this project successfully brought together “the marriage of modern technology to good, old-fashioned public safety service.” With 700 calls being answered on that first day, Cobb’s 911 system ushered in a new era in emergency response for the county and proved just how important 911 is to the community. Today, our team processes over 2000 calls daily, working hard to be there for you when you need us most. For 38 years, we’ve been here, answering the call. We’ve got you covered, Cobb County! #TeamCobb911 #WeAreCobb911

#TeamCobb911 would like to extend a farewell to our Deputy Director, Robbie McCormick, as she heads out west to start a new journey as the Director of Emergency Communications for Bernalillo County. Robbie has led our Professional Standards and Development division for over two and a half years, overseeing agency accreditation, training, public records, and quality assurance. She has been an integral part of our team and a true advocate for our core values. Under Robbie's leadership, we achieved multiple milestones. Over 30 team members initiated Professional Development Plans to achieve their goals. Many of our team members were empowered to get active in the industry by presenting at conferences, joining national and state chapter APCO committees, and making their voices heard in publications and podcasts. Our training program met national standards and achieved APCO International's Agency Training Program Certification. We launched an innovative partnership with Osborne High School to educate students about careers in public safety telecommunications. While we are sad to see her leave, we are incredibly happy for Robbie as she takes on this exciting new role. We wish her and her new team at BernCo911 the best of luck!?
