Celebrating Mark McBride: A Remarkable Career in Fresh Produce Join us in celebrating Mark McBride as he retires from his role as a lettuce commodity manager and salesperson at Coastline Family Farms. Mark’s journey in the fresh produce industry is a story of dedication, hard work, and passion for agriculture. Mark’s career began after he graduated as the valedictorian of the School of Agriculture at CSU Chico in May 1976. He kicked off his professional journey with Super Valu-Salinas as an inspector buyer. His keen eye for quality quickly set him apart. In May 1977, Mark joined Sears-Schuman-Watsonville in sales, contributing significantly to their seasonal operations. By November 1977, he was with Mutual Vegetable Sales-Salinas, a year-round lettuce shipper, where he played a key role in their success. October 1981 marked a major milestone as Mark took on the role of sales manager at Salinas Marketing Coop. His leadership helped the company thrive and eventually merge with SLFC to form River Valley Marketing in early 1991. When River Valley Marketing was acquired by Sunridge Farms in January 2001, which later became Coastline Family Farms, Mark’s impact continued to grow. For the past 23 and a half years, he’s been a vital part of Coastline Family Farms’ success. Mark’s favorite part of his job has always been the personal interactions. He says, "I’ve learned something from every person I’ve met or spoken to." He treasures the teamwork and camaraderie that helped achieve company goals. Mark attributes his success to his mentors, especially his father, Bill McBride, who taught him the value of hard work, saying, “you’ll be surprised how lucky you get if you work your butt off!” He also fondly recalls his father’s boss, Andy D’Arrigo, who encouraged him to pursue agriculture and provided invaluable opportunities. As he steps into retirement, Mark will miss the people he’s worked with and the friendships he’s built. However, he won’t miss the early alarm clocks, constant weather monitoring, and market declines (though he enjoyed the market inclines). Looking ahead, Mark is excited to spend more time with his wife Holly, their son Reilly, and family. He’s looking forward to enjoying their charming town of San Juan Bautista and traveling to see more of the world. Mark expresses his deep appreciation for the Cox family’s support throughout his career at Coastline Family Farms. He’s also grateful to his co-workers, acknowledging that success in this business is a team effort. As Mark McBride steps into this new chapter, we thank him for his incredible contributions to the fresh produce industry. Congratulations, Mark, and here’s to a joyful and fulfilling retirement! #Retirement #FreshProduce #Agriculture #ThankYou #Inspiration
