Coastal Flooding is a $Multi-Billion dollar problem and climate change exacerbates this problem for commercial, public, and residential infrastructure. Our goal at Coastal Measures is to move beyond monitoring past events and provide unparalleled insight into future events using AI. We are excited to announce that our V2 AI water level forecasting models will soon be released through CUMULUS.?This project was a collaborative effort between Experiential AI at the Roux Institute and Coastal Measures. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provides national historical water level data (https://water.noaa.gov/), which has been instrumental in this project. We have expanded current forecasting capabilities by building a machine learning pipeline aimed at: a) Providing more accurate estimates b) Capturing the complex dynamics of changing coastal sea levels Experiential AI (EAI) is a research institute dedicated to solving real-world challenges, advancing research in human-centric AI, and developing solutions that extend human intelligence. Pipeline Highlights: 1. Fusing atmospheric data, sea-level data, astronomical body data, and calendar data as input. 2. Developed a unique model for each of the numerous stations scattered across the US for measuring sea levels. 3. The system can predict water levels up to 7 days in advance. 4. Employed a variety of algorithms, ranging from linear regression to XGBoost. 5. Created tens of thousands of features for screening. 6. Developed cross-station features to account for spatial dynamics. A huge shoutout to @Omer Faruk Alis, PhD, and Pramod Nagare from EAI, whose expertise and dedication were crucial in building this system. We believe this innovative approach will significantly enhance our ability to predict sea levels, offering more accurate and timely information to mitigate the impacts of rising sea levels. We look forward to continued collaboration and groundbreaking advancements in this field! Last week, the cohort gathered in Portland for a Venture Showcase at The Roux Institute at Northeastern University. They presented their innovative products and services focused on ocean exploration, conservation, and the sustainable use of ocean resource to an engaged audience of entrepreneurs, investors, students, industry partners, and community members.
