Wings Over Wilderness (WOW) is a field trip opportunity for Title 1 schools across the Lowcountry. Working with grades 1-12, the WOW program gives students the opportunity to make a meaningful connections with local ecosystems and wildlife through an immersive field trip. Utilizing a variety of field trip itineraries that include kayaking to?Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary, barrier island exploration to Bulls Island or hiking in Francis Marion National Forest, the wings of each classroom expand beyond four walls. Together with this program’s sponsor, Boeing, we are connecting students with Charleston’s wild places. Program goals include:?Increasing comfort on the water, creating future environmental stewards, and developing environmental literacy. In 2024, over 10,000 South Carolina students participated in a Coastal Expeditions field trip. With grants from partners including Boeing South Carolina, OVER HALF of those students participated for free. Access to the outdoors is for everyone, and these field trips lay the groundwork for a lifetime of experiences in nature. #boeinginspires https://lnkd.in/ecVQGDfR

关于我们
Since 1992, we've been on a mission to put people safely and securely in the path of beauty to experience meaningful things. As guides and storytellers, we delight in sharing all that we know about the Lowcountry – its lands and waters, its plants and animals and people, and its history and culture – with everyone we meet. BECAUSE TO KNOW THIS PLACE IS TO LOVE IT. AND TO LOVE IT IS TO HELP CARE FOR IT FOREVER.

Always great to be a part of this program. Thanks for coming out to Bulls Island in Cape Romain NWR with us!
Last week, members of the fourth SLI cohort gathered in Charleston for their second class focused on conservation. During this packed session, the cohort discussed biodiversity, dived into the status of conservation in South Carolina and spent time enjoying the natural beauty of Bulls Island. Fellows also participated in a panel discussion on community conservation and resilience, heard about the intersection between land management, forestry and conservation and wrapped up the day by focusing on the?foundations of sustainability leadership. Thank you to Elizabeth Fly, Director of Resilience & Ocean Conservation at The Nature Conservancy, Chris Crolley, CEO of Coastal Expeditions and Sustain SC Board member and CEO of Milliken Advisors, Trip Chavis, for guiding our discussions! ? ? SLI is a program run in partnership between Sustain SC and the The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities at Furman University.

Coastal Expeditions had the opportunity to operate a little bit like canoe liveries did in the 1600s to 1800s a couple of weeks ago when a thru-paddler named Peter Frank needed a place to stay and get local paddling advice on his 6,000-mile trek. Learn more about his epic adventure and backstory as he canoes from Michigan down the east coast and around to the Mississippi River to to the Great Loop in reverse. https://lnkd.in/erQ84wpg

Coastal Expeditions and veterans from the Coastal Warriors program participated in PalmettoPride's annual Francis Marion Forest Clean-Up. Within this 250,000-acre National Forest, people regularly dump household trash and construction debris. This clean-up is an important way that Coastal Expeditions works to protect the places we explore. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/equqiHit

Listen to a thoughtful conversation with Coastal Expeditions CEO Chris Crolley on The Sustainable Angler Podcast
I am thrilled to share my interview with Chris Crolley, who is the CEO of Coastal Expeditions and Founder of the Coastal Expeditions Foundation. Chris is also a naturalist and storyteller, and in this episode, we discuss everything from the Lowcountry’s barrier island ecology, environmental threats to our paradise in the Lowcountry, and the importance of education in solving many of our environmental problems. As Chris says, “educate, commit to doing the work, become inspired and take action!” I hope you enjoy this episode! The Sustainable Angler podcast is brought to you by Emerger Strategies, and A New Earth Project - The Sustainability Initiative of Atlantic Packaging. https://lnkd.in/dMKPjgms #protectwhatyoulove #fishing #seakayaking #conservation #sustainability
