November is Childhood Grief Awareness Month, an important time to shed light on the unique ways children experience and process grief. At Coastal Kids Home Care, we believe in supporting children and families through some of their most challenging moments. Alongside The Association of Child Life Professionals, Inc., we recognize the crucial role that our Child Life Specialists play in helping young patients navigate, understand, and cope with death or loss through therapeutic play, education, and emotional support. This month, we honor the children who are grieving and celebrate the talented team of healthcare professionals who walk alongside them, providing compassionate care and unwavering support.

Coastal Kids Home Care in Salinas and Santa Clara, CA, is seeking a contract Child Life Specialist. This flexible role is perfect for a specialist looking to set their own schedule while providing meaningful support to children and families. Patient caseloads can range from 2 to 10, based on your availability. As a Child Life Specialist with Coastal Kids, you’ll offer in-home support that includes coping strategies, diagnosis education, therapeutic play, and compassionate palliative and end-of-life care — all with the flexibility to manage your schedule. The donation of a Nintendo Switch has been a game-changer for our nursing and care teams, enabling them to create a more comforting experience for our young patients. One of our patients, Alexi, has found the Nintendo Switch to be the perfect distraction during challenging moments. What was once a difficult process, like his blood draws, has now become manageable with the help of his favorite games. Seeing Alexi engaged and at ease is a testament to the impact that compassionate, creative care can have. Shoutout to the incredible LVN students from Hartnell College who spent the day with our CEO, Margy Mayfield, and Clinical Director, Robin Nacamuli honing their pediatric clinical skills! Pediatric training isn’t typically part of the LVN curriculum, but Hartnell College’s program is going the extra mile to give students a broader view of their career options. Each year, students have the unique opportunity to rotate through Coastal Kids Home Care, shadowing our amazing shift nurses in patient homes for two days. This hands-on experience allows them to see pediatric nursing in action and understand the deeply meaningful relationships our nurses build with the children and families they serve.
