Thoughts on #ExpoWest from a life science consultant turned #CPG enthusiast:
Thank you Anthony Cadieux II and Justin Bruckel for giving me the opportunity to represent Coaqua Coconut Water at ExpoWest. Coaqua is not only a great tasting, natural hydration beverage, but it is also a reflection of Tony and Justin’s past lives as elite junior hockey players in need of high quality hydration and their current lives as young professionals managing work and their (growing) families. There is a lot more to come from Coaqua so stay tuned and hydrated!
Attended one talk in-person, “Optimizing Sexual & Hormonal Health” which set the tone for my Expo. Susan C. Allen Augustin Zeenia F. Robyn Lawrence Hunter Morris Nathan Price were all very insightful, but I was surprised when the conversation evolved into a broader discussion on how consumer health brands are empowering patients to take their health into their own hands. The concept of patients empowering themselves at the point of sale to improve health outcomes is both exciting and frightening. Hearing stories of patients managing GLP-1 side effects with supplements, and anecdotes of patients achieving better health outcomes with consumer health products vs. FDA-approved therapeutics left me with a cautious optimism for the future.
Too many awesome brands to count, but here a few that stood out to me:
Deeannah Seymour and her team at pH-D Feminine Health are working to remove the stigma around Women’s Health by providing women high-quality, evidence-based products + supplements. Thanks for being awesome booth neighbors!
James Reid and Stoked Beekeeping Co. offered some unique products, sourcing honey from both New Zealand and Alaska. Their Manuka honey tallow balm is luxurious and unique, has been great for hydrating dry skin
Moco Black Sauce served up some very tasty and unique chili sauces. Based on traditional Ghanaian recipes, black sauce (also called “Shito” or “Moco”) incorporates herring and shrimp that packs an umami punch! savorymoco.com
BRIXY continues to impress with their better-for-you personal care items and sustainable packaging. Their mint eucalyptus shampoo is my new favorite!
Who Gives A Crap continues to shine in a sea of “flushable” wipes. Their branding makes the mundane toilet paper roll a statement, but their commitment to charitable giving is what's truly admirable.
VITAHUSTLE surprised me with their all-in-one superfood shake. I typically shy away from all-in-one protein powders, but Vita Hustle has some great tasting flavors with a functional ingredient profile that's great as a meal replacement or after workout shake.
Thanks Sean Cline and Qloo for stopping by the Coaqua booth! Qloo is an AI-powered consumer insights platform helping brands keep a pulse on evolving consumer tastes + preference. Simple UI but very powerful.
