Mission & History Our mission is to better sustain, coordinate, and improve local planning, development, and community services that address the needs of low-income and working-class residents and small businesses of South Los Angeles. Our work is rooted in a philosophy of coalition-building and collaboration with residents and other stakeholders to jointly create a lasting impact in the community. We focus on three program areas in conjunction with the development of affordable and permanent supportive housing: - Workforce for Adults and Youth - Housing and Support Services - Entrepreneur and Small Business Services Founded in January 2005 by neighborhood residents and community leaders, our goal is to strengthen the economic vitality of South Los Angeles and improve the quality of life for youth and the community. CRCD received its federal tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in December 2005. Fiscal sponsorship and operational support were generously provided by the Los Angeles Conservation Corps through July 2006. Today, CRCD is committed to our mission and moving forward with a dedicated board of directors, advisory board, and staff. The Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD) has secured a $20 million federal grant from the EPA's Community Change Program, made possible by the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. This funding will drive environmental justice, reduce pollution, and create green job opportunities in South Los Angeles. In partnership with LATTC and others, we’ll be launching training programs in lead abatement, EV maintenance, and green infrastructure welding—empowering residents with sustainable careers. This initiative is a huge win for our community's health, economy, and future. We’re proud to lead this transformative effort toward a cleaner, greener, and more equitable South LA. ???? • ?? Spotlight on Marcella Gardens: A Triumph of Proposition HHH ?? CRCD is thrilled to have Marcella Gardens featured in this month's HHH Made This Editorial! Our ongoing commitment to ensuring affordable and secure housing for all South LA residents is powered by the collective efforts of our CRCD Partners, our Housing and Supportive Services team, New Economics for Women, partners across Los Angeles County, and the incredible support of Angelenos who championed Prop. HHH in 2016. Proposition HHH is more than just a policy—it’s a promise kept. Since its passage, it has delivered lasting results, bringing over 12,000 supportive housing units to our most vulnerable neighbors. These units provide not just a roof, but a foundation for safe, stable, and PERMANENT housing paired with impactful services. ?? Making History in LA ?? As we approach the end of the year, Los Angeles is witnessing a groundbreaking expansion of permanent supportive housing. With 30 new developments set to open, adding 2,279 units, this marks the largest expansion of affordable housing in LA's history. 2024 is set to be a landmark year, with more affordable housing opening in our city than ever before, solidifying LA's unwavering commitment to combating homelessness and housing insecurity. This success is a testament to the dedication of the Los Angeles City family, our resident services sector, and the mission-aligned affordable housing development community. As HHH funds conclude, we look forward to celebrating and showcasing these new homes, where many Angelenos will finally find a place to call their own. • The Local Rental Owners Collaborative (LROC), consisting of about 40 small residential property owners in South Los Angeles, is seeking consultants to explore the feasibility of transforming into an independent, self-sustaining organization. The consultants will assess member priorities, develop leadership skills, and create a detailed "Entity Plan" with steps and budget for this transition. They will also facilitate a member discussion to decide on the plan. This initial consulting will pave the way for potential start-up consulting in 2025 if the transition proceeds.
