  • You often hear people say that the only constant in south Louisiana is change. For the people who attend SOC, change is a big part of their work, their research and their lives. Some conference-goers are focused on slowing change. Others may look at ways to adapt to it. All are aware that it is inevitable. The concept always rings true: things look far different today than they did yesterday, and the decisions we’re making now will help decide what they’ll look like in the future. Join us May 20 to 22 to exchange ideas, learn and connect. Hosted by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, with partners Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and The Water Institute. Register today: https://lnkd.in/gF9dYgwe

  • We had a wonderful morning learning about bald cypress trees from Harvey Stern, Brendan Harmon and Julie Whitbeck! Our CRCLecture attendees spent their Saturday morning taking in the beautiful nature in Jean Lafitte National Park. We learned about the legacy of bald cypress trees through innovative models and took a stroll through Jean Lafitte National Park to see a 500 year old cypress tree. Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thank you to our lecture speakers!

  • Volunteers, we need your help for a very special project. The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana is teaming up with the National Football League, the Super Bowl LIX Host Committee, Force Blue, Chefs Brigade, Verizon, Entergy, Venture Global and Dow for a Super Bowl project to create a living shoreline that will help mitigate storm damage and minimize coastal erosion in Leeville, in south Lafourche Parish. To kick off the project, we will host an oyster shell bagging event Dec. 5 at CRCL’s Restoration HQ in Violet to prepare the recycled oyster shell for the reef. Volunteers can register for the bagging at this link: https://lnkd.in/gNijtS4Y #coastalrestoration #landloss #coastaladvocacy #nolaoysters #batonrougeoysters #oysterreef #oystershell #superbowl

  • In May, over 1,200 scientists, policymakers, planners, business interests, educators and private residents concerned with the future of the Louisiana coast will gather in New Orleans. These coastal stakeholders will exchange timely and relevant information on the dynamic conditions of our coastal communities, environment and economy, for the purpose of applying that information to existing and future coastal restoration and protection efforts, policies and decision-making. Your voice is vital to the conversation. Register today and join us for three days of lively discussion around our changing coast. https://lnkd.in/gF9dYgwe

  • Kick off tree planting season with us on November 22! Our first tree planting event of the season is coming up. Join CRCL as we plant bald cypress trees in St. Bernard Parish alongside our partners in the Central Wetlands Reforestation Collective (CWRC), including The Meraux Foundation, Common Ground Relief, and The Lower 9th Ward Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gC9PA94j About CWRC: The Central Wetlands are in St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes. Working alongside community stakeholders, this group uses native plant restoration projects to reforest the wetlands, resulting in improved ecosystem services, including mitigating the impacts of hurricanes, higher quality habitat and a stronger connection between communities and the landscape. These restoration projects are a tool to build capacity in the surrounding communities by educating and engaging residents in the important work of coastal restoration.
