Key Statistics to Note: - Water Levels Decline:Lake Nakivale's water levels have dropped by over 40% since 2000, threatening both biodiversity and local livelihoods. - Rising Salinity:The salinity of the lake has increased by 25%, affecting aquatic life and drinking water quality. - Increased pH Levels:The lake's pH has risen, exacerbating health risks for residents and altering the natural habitat. - Health Impacts: Studies reveal a 30% increase in reported female reproductive health issues linked to water quality changes. - Human Diseases:The rise in salinity and pollution has led to a surge in water-borne diseases, with cases of cholera and dysentery up by 50% in nearby communities. ?? Impact on Livelihoods: The decline in water quality impacts fishing and agriculture, leading to diminished food security and economic stability for many families. ??
