Director, Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination, The Task Force for Global Health, Inc.

Colleague Harvey Alter and I appreciate Portugal Ambassador Francisco Lopes opening his residence on 9/10/24 for England, Mexico and Australia officials to share how their countries are eliminating hepatitis C. Former NIH Director Francis Collins and Sam West of Senator Bill Cassidy's staff expressed cautious optimism for a budget supporting HCV elimination in the US. Attended by about 13 Congressional offices the CBO and 25 embassies, a national HepC elimination program can avert, over ten years, an estimated 29,000 deaths and save $13b in federal health care costs.

  • Photographer Conor Ashleigh, who captured this captivating photo, tied for the first-place winner in Category 3 ?? At Bathurst Correctional Centre, New South Wales, Australia, a nurse performs point-of-care hepatitis C testing for inmates. The program operates under Justice Health NSW in partnership with the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sidney, and the Australia National Hepatitis C Program. Photographer Conor Ashleigh explains: “Through the prison gates, a dedicated nurse [is] extending vital healthcare to an often-overlooked population.
